WHAT HAS HAPPENED TO THE GUINNESS GAMERS EDITION FOR 2021?

Some wished it gone, some are avid readers, Twin Galaxies has not featured for years, and Guinness recognize two certain Donkey Kong and Pac-man records that Twin Galaxies does not and avoided going to court ...

The Guinness Gamers Edition 2018 was released on 9/12/2017

The Guinness Gamers Edition 2019 was released on 8/28/2018

The Guinness Gamers Edition 2020 was released on 9/3/2019

The Guinness Gamers Edition 2021 was released (follow the pattern) Sep, Oct, Nov, Dec 2020? No. How about Jan, Feb, Mar 2021? No.

What has happened to this high earning and important revenue earning book for the owners of the Guinness brand?

There's no news on the official website and book stores no longer have a listing. When I checked a few months ago, there was a tentative March 2021 at my local bookstore and now there is no listing in their database.

It's a mystery. Is it done? Game over? Has the current court case involving Twin Galaxies as Defendant, indirectly sunk or withheld the Guinness Gamers Edition 2021? There's big money lost in no release, and there's big money and reputation saved in no print? What do you think?

i dont know if you're making an implication or i'm reading too much into your words, but are you implying guiness chose not to print it to get out a nowin scenario? the no win being if they delist the scores then they face lawsuit, but if they do list then they lost cred for other s cores? so its an implicit acknowledgment that they know the scores are fraudulent and further they know all their readers know and so want to avoid it? maybe

however part of your statement i question (question, not argue as i really dont know). you mentioned this makes a lot of money for them, and so the implications that exist are in part hung on that assumptoin. Does it make much money anymore? is it still lucrative? could it actually just plain be cut because its no longer profitable?

I don't know what's happening either. That's why I asked if anyone knew or could find out what is happening. Also some feedback on the book and what people thought would be interesting.

Guinness have sold over 5 million publications of the Gamers edition. They started the Gamers edition in 2007, released yearly, and have not released the 2021 edition which is way overdue. There is no press statement or latest news on the website about Gamers edition 2021.

I can't find any details on recent yearly sales, however I would have thought even a meagre 100K copies sold world wide is worth approx. 1 million dollars in revenue. There is also the added marketing and promotion value with the publication. Maybe like you posted, it's not that profitable for the cost? Perhaps they have changed direction at a strategic level and dropped the gaming only book, and if so, is one of the main reasons to do so the current contentious lawsuit involving TG?

I would have thought watching the current lawsuit is not something that Guinness can ignore. They were involved in the debate at media level and received considerable flak on their changed decision and the grounds for the change.

I think the gamers edition is important for gaming culture and has provided great content and news on all types of video gaming. I don't expect everyone to agree on that, however TG has had a fine history with Guinness. It built many important relationships with others in the video gaming industry, and it would have been good to see that relationship rekindled in the future somehow.

It probably has something to do with this:

    https://www.speedrun.com/the_site/thread/07rvd

In short, Guinness had severed their collaboration with TG (around the time that Billy Mitchell and Walter Day were badmouthing TG and their decision to remove Billy from the scoreboard). And after Guinness reinstated Billy, SRC chose to end their collaboration with Guinness as well (though no word on whether that was as a specific result of that).

So Guinness no longer has anyone to partner with for gaming scores.

    For archiving relevance at TG:

37 likes on the announcement is a substantial number of gamers.

In the 2020 GWRGE, Speed Run accounted for 12 pages. The book had 192 pages, so just over 6% on SR. While the article is important, I would have thought it could be readily replaced with another topic in the 2021 edition. However it may be that other bodies that were in the book, or others considered for future publications, provided feedback they did not want to collaborate with Guinness, based on the same issue of their change in decision. The book primarily is not about world record scores, and may be just delayed for the new edition or until the smoke clears. To prepare the book for publication takes over 6 months in article content alone, and I would expect much of this work has been done, and then the plug was pulled. And maybe it's dead, for now.

The only way that relationship can be rekindled is if guinness admits they were wrong and strips mitchell's "records" again.Honestly i'm more interested in the TG vs. Mitchell case and when that's going to be over? It's time to put this bulls*** to bed permanently!
