My Son's arcade cabinet update!

My Little Man testing out his cabinet for the first time before all the finishing touches and paint are done to it.

My Son had the idea a little while ago that he wanted to build his own arcade cabinet when we started to renovate the basement into a game room. We started a few weeks ago and am very proud to say that he not only measured everything out himself, but also used all the power tools etc. to cut and assemble it mostly all on his own!

    Very Nice!!!

Since you are working on two cabinets, that appear as if they may be "room partners", for a while at least, I'd like to make a big suggestion.

Use the X-arcade style sticks(16/32 way? Street-Fighter style, 360 movement)in one, and dedicated 4/8 way in the other.

I imagine you know a bit about sticks and what I am talking about, but there are some games you'll really want to play "just right", and for DK, Pac, Burgertime(!!!), etc, you'll really want the restrictor for it to feel right.

My 4/8 way are Omni2's, from Groovygamegear-kinda expensive, and not for everyone, I had to get used to them, complained to the manufacturer at first even, "plasticky", but I liked them eventually.

    Good Stuff, Man!!!

It appears that great minds think alike Roger! LOL!! I already thought about that and ordered a TankStick last week (got the 2-player model with the Trackball) and will be using that with a PC on the second cabinet.

Was also thinking about making a 2nd control panel with the Sanwa/Happ setup just for the 4-way joystick setup, then I can easily swap out the panels in seconds since the TankStick sit perfectly in the cabinet also.

I didn't go as far as stand-up machines(yet...), but it quickly occurred to me that like it or not, I had to have two X-arcades, I would spend an hour swapping out sticks, then decide I wanted to play a game with the sticks I had just swapped out, it was a real pain, lol. Now I just hook up whichever one is appropriate to the game.

I really do need to reinstall MAME sometime, kinda a big hole in my stuff right now...
