Frame Rate code

There's been a really good and fun competition lately in the game Sega Rally 2 Championship for the Dreamcast, between John Brissie, Fred Bugmann and myself, specially on the most popular track Arcade - Desert. We've been submitting scores beating each other back and forth but now I feel I'm at my limits with the car I have, to unlock the faster cars it would take a lot of time that I much rather spend in a bunch of other games I'd like to play.

So I looked for the codes to unlock the cars and now I got them, but I also learned that the game has a code to get rid of some cosmetic element on the track and make the game run at 60fps instead of 30fps (which ends up been more like 48fps as you can see in). The change in fps does not affect the timer and it helps to get ride of frame drop and lag in the most element-heavy areas of the track. To activate this, press: up, A, down, down, left, right, b, b, down in the tittle screen.

I don't think this would be a reason to reject a score but I want to be sure anyway and ask what people think.

That's a tough one. I think since it actually alters how the game runs, it wouldn't be allowed. Unlocking something with a code that you could unlock by playing the game is fine in my book and I understand the time consuming thing. Since this actually would alter the game, I would say no.

i think it would come down to whether you view it as a "cheat code" or a hidden/unlockable items. going only by what i read here i'm inclined to think its not ok, however i could totally be wrong and i'd defer to what to the competitors think.

I am dubious whether it would be permitted also. A difference in frame rate is the reason for the NTSC/PAL split already & this seems to fit that same logic.

Initially, using separate tracks would be the best way forward, I believe.

I thought the difference between NTSC and PAL was in MHz which does actually make the game run slower and not in the frame rate, whichs only gives you more images per second but not an actually increase in the speed of the game.

Anyway, I understand how this could be controversial and to me it's not a big deal really, so I'll just submit my scores with ths standard frame rate.

Thank you guys for your answers :)

Race times will be faster on NTSC versus PAL and you can see the difference in race times on the longer races 2 minutes or more.
