Quitting Daytona USA

For decades I've played lots and lots of racing games across many platforms and I gotta say Daytona USA for the Dreamcast has one of the worst controls I've ever experienced, absolutely frustrating. The only game I think is worse is Midtown Madness 3.

So I'm not playing this stupid game anymore, if anyone wants to go after my scores, I won't even bother trying to reclaim them, I'm done with this crap.

The ones that I consider the best ones are:

1. Trackmania

2. Mario Kart series

3. Gran Turismo series

Daytona to me is terrible because of the frustrating controls.

Why do you think GT and TM are stupid?

TM does sometimes seem like a robot created a thousand random tracks. Doesn't have any soul. I mean it's Track MANIA so it's focused on massive amounts of tracks. But I think it's boring.

GT is nice really but its a sim and sims aren't for everyone.

IMO the perfect racing game is F-Zero X for N64. Most fun is Mario Kart Wii. Favorite nostalgia racer is RC Pro-Am for NES.

I absolutely agree about TM being super repetitive and almost boring. My list was based on games with the best controls.

If we are going by how fun they are, then I would say Mario Kart, Crazy taxi and NFS Underground are the best.

Ha. I just tried the game on a DC emulator yesterday, as I was considering purchasing a Dreamcast mainly for Daytona. Yea, I'm no longer considering purchasing the console...lol...Looks nice, plays like garbage.

Completely agree, the game looks awesome, all the different cameras are great, and the lots of variations had me very excited, but the controls are pure garbage.

I tried adjusting the sensitivity settings and it made no difference at all no matter how much I lowered it. I tried with all different cars and tires as well, same thing.

Even the PB Super car which has 100% grip, drifts out of control at the most basic curves, so yeah, I'm not wasting my time on that thing.

I will always think of GT first because it's been around longer - and I didn't have an XBox to play this on so I only played after class in college at a friend's apartment - but Forza felt great to me when it comes to controls. I wish I could go back right now and compare but I STILL don't have an XBox. I only played it for less than an hour at a time for a couple semesters but it deserves a nod.

I thoroughly enjoyed Midtown Madness 3, so am surprised to see it listed as being poor for controls. Open world racing games are my most enjoyable ones - Forza Horizon series and The Crew (haven't got to The Crew 2 yet as I know I'll lose track of all time playing) definitely superb and the Midtown Madness set are there too but didn't offer that much in the way of open world. The original Test Drive Unlimited is great on PS2 still but the 360 version has lost its shine as it requires a no-longer available online portion to work fully. Test Drive Unlimited 2 is awful.
