Twin Galaxies stream needs a human!

I like the new feature of Twin Galaxies, streaming the recently accepted submissions, but just letting it run automatically is NOT a good idea.

Most players only record one run at a time, and those make for an interesting watch on the stream, but some record multiple scores in the same video and the result is the repetition of the same video over and over again. This is the case of Ryan Genno and Les Rayner, they usually record many different scores in one video and there is absolutely nothing wrong with it, but for the TG stream, this is extremely boring and I'm sure that's one of the reasons why almost nobody is watching.

Recently Ryan submitted a 1.5 hour video with 10 different scores on it. They have been accepted today and the result is the same video repeating 10 times, which means 15 hours of the same video. I find myself leaving the stream out of boredom everytime I see the same 1.5 hour video start playing over and over and over.

This type of content is not interesting at all and if it makes me (someone who practically lives here) leave the stream, I can't imagine what new viewers think of it.

short of a new effort programattically, or staff time, theres not much that can be done other than limit it to just mame which is guaranteed to be only one run per submission per the rules. maybe that would be a needed temp step? just stream mame, and hopefully we non mame players will understand its not about treating mame as better, just about realizing mame alone deals with this issue

I dont think streaming only MAME scores is a good solution mainly because there is not enough MAME scores being accepted everyday to cover even 2 hours of the stream and you are leaving out anybody that doesn't play MAME.

My solution would be either have a human in charge that would read the time stamp provided by the player in the submission message and fast foward to play only the score in question, or program the stream to not play more than once any videos with the same Vzaar link adress or videos from the same player that are exactly the same length.

Jace responded previously indicating that this is going to happen but it will only play items accepted in the past 72 hours.

The problem is that in the Ryan Genno example I presented, these 10 submissions were submitted and therefore accepted within minutes from each other. Today all 10 scores were accepted and the video has been played 5 times already, it is being played right now as I write this.

Exactly the scenario Jace was responding to that I posed with my own Max Match video as an example.

Really, this is an issue? The reason I submit a collection of submissions at once is because there are usually multiple games in one set like Taito Legends. Who wouldn't wanna move on to Space Invaders after a game of Bubble Bobble, eh? I also hate doing the boot up process all the time too so this is a great way to work around it. I wish there was an easily way to have the videos streamed better so they don't repeat so often but it also gets them approved faster and I also have a lot of other scores and runs that are just one game but are still in limbo.

Like I said in the post "there is absolutely nothing wrong with it" I'm not saying it's your fault, you can submit your scores as you feel more confortable, I have no problem at all with that. But for the interest of growing the TG stream, this becomes an issue. You shouldn't worry about that, is admin staff who needs to solve this.

    Nope. :D

Your video just happens to be the example in context for the current TG Live stream. Could have been anyone else that does this (lots of us do).

Is the Twitch stream for some kind of official recording or is it pure Twitch entertainment/promotion?

Because there isn’t really a lot of entertainment on Twitch without an active channel community and/or entertaining production values. I.e. highlights of new submissions, make a show out of it. I could see a format of ‘presenters’ talking over the submissions podcast like and explaining riles etc. but that is a big effort. Much bigger than the great suggestion of working out how to only run a video link once if used in multiple accepted submissions.

TLDR: It would be worthwhile having the stream ‘owned and produced’ by a human, but that costs time, money or volunteers with time and skills.

Yes there are a lot of interesting and more advanced things that can be done with the stream as many of you have pointed out. However the goal at this time is not necessarily to build the twitch channel or anything like that.

The goal was to just get a basic thing operational and present.

Currently there is limited time and resources, but perhaps one day eventually we will do some more advanced things as has been suggested.

For now, the best way to look at the stream is as maybe a simple advertisement or promotion of achievement activity and perhaps a way for some of the awesome achievements that take place to possibly be seen with a tiny more bit of visibility.

It’s more like a digital billboard that sits on the side of the road. You may drive by and notice something cool and then perhaps check out what it is advertising, but it’s not designed for you to sit there and just watch it all day.

It’s just another simple and quick way for the content here at Twin Galaxies to be lightly surfaced.

I’m sure it will improve over time when we can dedicate more resources toward it.
