2004 Bounties Rules
Hello fellow gamers:
I am going to start year 2004 off with a wave of home console and arcade \"bounties\".
As with my 2003 bounties (Crazy Taxi and Freedom Fighter), these will be personally paid by me to any gamer that can meet or beat the indicated thresholds per challenge. And as these bounties are paid for out of my own pocket, I will understandably be choosing challenges on titles that have great meaning to me.
One of my favourite expressions is 'I am not Bill Gates'...after all, who is (besides Billionaire Bill himself !!) Therefore, please understand that as I am sponsoring these bounties on my own, as a private individual, the attributed values are based on what is within my anticipated continuing financial means to do so.
However, modest though these 'bounties' are, there is a potential cumulative payout of nearly $3,000.00 which is no small commitment on my part. The various 'bounties' range from $25.00 up to four (4) that are $200.00 apiece (challenges 11, 25, 34 and 37). It is conveivable that an industrious and skilled gamer can make out quite nicely between now and the end of the challenge deadlines !!
That being said, these 'bounties' all have an expiration date of December 31st, 2004, to coincide with my 'Crazy Taxi crazy bounties', and also my Magnavox Odyssey 2 'Freedom Fighter' bounty. Some prizes are awarded ninety (90) days from the date that a successful challenge has been both submitted and verified, while other prizes are awarded based on the highest score received by December 31st, 2004. Read the contest guidelines carefully, I implore you.
Listed below in sequence are the following?
1st - I thought it best to start with the exciting synopsis of what each of the bounties are, inclusive of the specific rules and settings that govern each challenge.
2nd - The general rules of the competition, including the indemnification clauses which are unfortunately necessary, as this is money coming out of my own pocket, so I have to prepare for every contingency.
3rd - A list of approved emulators for selected vintage console and arcade challenges.
4th - And finally, my closing thoughts on these 'bounty' challenges.
Read them carefully, I implore you, so that there are no bad feelings if a 'bounty' challenge is partially met under the competition parameters.
I will shortly have a main section in the Twin Galaxies forum created which is entitled 'Roberts 2004 Bounty Challenges'. All correspondence relating to the 'bounty' challenges should ideally be sent to me via a forum message there, although it is equally permissible to send me a private message (PM) via the same forum. However, so that everyone benefits from the wisdom gained from each reply, I ask that you please consider the public forum category your first and foremost way to contact me with questions regarding these 'bounty' challenges.
And so, I welcome you to my year 2004 Bounty Challenges. I wish all participating gamers the best of luck, and most of all, have fun !! Here goes...and for fun, I have added what I think is the Challenge Difficulty Rating, a personal opinion, of course. From (1-5) where (1) is easiest and (5) is hardest.
The 'bounties' are grouped by platform for sake of ease. The platforms involved, in order with the related 'bounty' challenge numbers, are as follows?SNES (1-3), NES (4-7), N64 (8-11), Odyssey 2 (12-13), Sega DC (14-18 ), Sony PS1 (19), Sony PS2 (20), Atari 2600 (21-25), ColecoVision (26), Microsoft Xbox (27) and finally arcade (28-38 ).

GENERAL 'BOUNTY' RULES, PROCEDURES AND INDEMNIFICATIONS
Now for the general rules governing the challenges?
1st - It is the intent of the challenge sponsor (myself) that only one (1) 'bounty' is to be paid per challenge. In the unlikely event of a tie, the bounty shall be split evenly between the number of successful claimants achieving the same resultant score.
2nd - All home console challenges must be fully recorded. This means you start recording before turning the game console on, and continue recording until after the gameplay is completed and any high-score initials are input.
For vintage titles, approved emulators are accepted for submission purposes, but the gameplay must be fully recorded from beginning to end via VHS video camera without exception.
3rd - Under no circumstances will photographs be accepted as the sole proof of submission. However, they may be submitted along with your videotape as a supplemental form of proof of accomplishment.
4th - No useage of turbo controllers, cheat codes, Game Genie/Shark devices, or game enhancement devices of any kind are permitted.
5th - All challenges are intended for single player performances only, and under no circumstances are 'continues' allowed after you have exhausted your supply of lives (initial and extra earned).
6th - For competitions payable based on the highest score achieved as of December 31st, all VHS videotape submissions must be received with a postmark no later than December 31st, 2004 without exception.
Further, it is the responsibility of the gamer to ensure that I receive the videotape. That being said, it is recommended that submissions are sent via insured mail at the expense of the gamer.
7th - All submission materials become the property of the Twin Galaxies Intergalactic Scoreboard and will not be returned to the gamer.
8th - All 'bounty' prizes shall be honoured by, and awarded by, Twin Galaxies chief referee Robert T. Mruczek in accordance with the payable terms described per event.
9th - Each 'bounty' expires promptly on midnight, December 31st, 2004, without exception. It is not the intent of the sponsor (myself) to extend the expiration date of unclaimed bounties after December 31st, 2004.
10th - As these bounties are awarded by a private individual (myself), anyone over the age of 13 is eligible to submit a successfully achieved 'bounty', inclusive of staff members of the Twin Galaxies Intergalactic Scoreboard, except for myself for reasons of integrity.
11th - All submissions must be recorded onto VHS videocassette. Although I can accept both PAL and NTSC submissions, all PAL submissions MUST be recorded in 2-hour mode, otherwise known as 'SP' mode, or it will be impossible for me to verify the submission.
In the event that only BETA cassette format is available to you, we do have the capacity to view in this format. Unfortunately, however, I cannot accept submissions in SECAM format.
12th ' All submissions must be accompanies by a completed and signed Twin Galaxies Player Agreement and Submission Form, which may be downloaded from the Twin Galaxies website at the following link - https://www.twingalaxies.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=996
13th - It is the responsibility of the gamer to fully read all challenge guidelines before attempting a submission.
14th - Specifically with regards to challenges that are payable to the first successful submitter prior to Dec31/04 rather than for the highest score achieved by Dec31/04, in the unlikely event that multiple submitters provide materials for the same challenge, the ?bounty? shall be awarded to the submitter whose parcel bears the earlier postmark. In the event that the postmarks are identical for each submitter, then the related 'bounty' shall be evenly split between the two submitters.
15th - All 'bounty' prizes shall be payable by myself, via my own personal check, in US$ dollar funds with the sole exception of submissions from Canada which shall be paid via US International Postal Money Order. Unfortunately, due to the number of potentially issued 'bounties', and as this is a privately funded 'bounty' challenge, I cannot invest the additional funds in arranging for alternate means of disbursement.
16th - All VHS videotape submissions must be sent to my at-home personal address which is as follows...
Robert T Mruczek
179 North 7th Street
Brooklyn, New York 11211-2905

FINAL THOUGHTS
The 'bounty' challenges that I have selected are, again, based on titles that have great personal significance to me. A few are somewhat obscure. This is not to ensure that I minimize the chance of a 'bounty' payout, but rather is my attempt to generate interest in a title that I believe has great gaming values, enjoyment, and of course challenge.
Some systems do not have an associated challenge. The answer for that is quite simple?I do not own those systems., thus have not developed an affinity with any particular titles for those systems. And the reason I do not own those systems is equally simple - 'I am not Bill Gates' !! Well, that plus I do not have the available space to house them.
According to my calculations, of the total potential 'bounty' payout of exactly $3,000.00, only $175.00 is definitely payable o January 31st, 2005?this covers ?bounty? challenges (1, 2, 4, 5, 6, 7, 9) which award a small sum based on merely completing the event by Dec31/04. In effect, if only one (1) gamer successfully submits for each of these challenges, then by default they would be the sole recipient of the combined 'bounty' payouts for these seven challenges !! So for these, it pays to be in it to win it. But of course, as these seven (7) challenges are based on the highest score or fastest time by Dec31/04, it could be anyones opportunity to claim these 'bounties' when the time comes.
Another $450.00 in 'bounties' is possibly payable on Jan31st, 2005, assuming someone manages to achieve the pre-determined threshold for each 'bounty' challenge described earlier. Only five (5) challenges fall into this category (2, 3, 8, 19 and 20). For example, challenge (3) is based on the highest score as of Dec31/04, but only providing the gamer has accumulated all the flags in 'Road Runner Death Valley Rally'. And you are probably wondering why 'bounty' challenge (2) is mentioned a second time, when I had just before said that it is definitely payable on Jan31/05. That is because it is the only variable payout 'bounty' of the entire group. It may be easy to finish 'Zombies Ate My Neighbors' with saving 1 or 2 'victims', but a higher payout is awarded based on how many 'victims' you ultimately save.
That leaves the other 'bounty' challenges. Some of them are much harder than others, thus the higher related 'bounty' prize. All of which are, I believe, within the realm of do-ability. Take, for example, 'bounty' challenge (38 ), arcade 'Super Cobra', in which the threshold is not even 2,000 points above the current world record. Or 'bounty' challenges (26 & 28 ) in which I am literally daring you to beat my own current world record on each. All you have to do is beat the record, even if by a mere 10 points. But because I am well aware of the mechanics of the game, and the likelihood that I, myself, can re-achieve the same score or higher, those 'bounty' awards, although for setting a new world record, are not as much as for example 'bounty' challenge (35) which is based on setting a new world record on 'Spectar' of 100,000 points or more. That target thresholds is MUCH harder than beating either of my own previously established records.
I am hoping that the opportunity for gamers to try these games that I have found so many years of personal enjoyment on will provide for both fun and excitement throughout 2004, as well as potentially rewarding industrious and skilled gamers accordingly for their dedication and prowess at the related titles.
Well that's about all I can say about these 'bounty' challenges, other that may I wish you all the best of luck, and hope that you find some of the same level of interest that I have in these selected titles.
Robert
