Robotron 35th Anniversary!
Today, June 1st, 2017 marks the 35th anniversary of Robotron: 2084, one of the greatest and most challenging arcade video games of the golden age created by the legendary VidKidz, Eugene Jarvis and Larry DeMar.
To celebrate, I will attempt to marathon the game up to 100 million points on one credit, which should take about 21 hours, while utilizing the ORIGINAL 1982 YELLOW ROMS on factory default settings. The idea is to play the game as it was originally played in the arcades 35 years ago to the day.
I have hit 100 million points four times already, but each time I used either the patched blue ROMS or the new Tie-Die ROMS. I have always believed that a 100m point game on one credit IS absolutely possible on the original yellow 1982 romset, just difficult to pull off without tripping the dreaded enforcer bug or rolling your lives back to zero. I have experienced both of these unfortunate scenarios in past marathon attempts before upgrading my machine to the patched blue set, then Tie-Die, but hopefully I've gained a bit more knowledge and experience with the game since then to help me successfully cross the 100m point finish line.
This is strictly a personal challenge and is meant to be just for FUN. I have been planning to revisit this challenge for over a year and figured that the most appropriate date to try and conquer this challenge would be on the 35th anniversary of the official production date for Robotron: 2084.
I will not be monitoring lives by using any counting devices of any kind, I'm just going to go strictly by feel, plow through and just go for it. Now how's that for a challenge on top of a challenge? ;)
I'll kick off the stream at about 11:00 AM. You can watch here: https://www.twitch.tv/smoke4659
