If you are recording a game, and the tape runs out, is it ok if there is say a minute pause to reload another tape, or would this be disqualified because the tape wasn't continuous.
Thanks.

if by "pause" you mean the arcade game isn't paused and you just keep on playing or letting whatever happens(men dying off etc.) while you get another tape going so about 30 seconds of action is missing...yes that's fine.
You can't really get a continuous game taped from an arcade game unless you have 2 separate recordings going on that overlap...then the second would have the action missed when tapes were switched in the first, and visa-versa.
So if you took a camcorder with you to Funspot or any arcade really and were recording the game and 30 seconds of action was "lost" during a tape switch...that's no problem. If you are smart you can try and do it not necessarily when the tape is fully used up...but perhaps at some brief intermission or easy level of the game so what's missing isn't something substantial.
This was actually discussed some for marathon attempts on console games....cuz during tape changes with a console that person could easily pause the game for hours on end...insert new tape...unpause the game and play. Pausing the console game actually is allowed for tape switches by TG. Anyway I'm sure you can see the obvious problem there...especially for claimed "marathon" runs.
At Funspot I plan on using a stop watch and swapping tapes at approxiamatly the 7:45 mark. That would leave me 15 minutes of tape. I will choose a bonus round near that point to do the swap. After the beer cans are mixed up you can set the bartender above the can you want to choose and just not pull the tap lever. You have approximatly 20 seconds until the computer will automatically open the can your above. So I figure I can quickly setup the right can and swap tapes during that few seconds. I will also probably have 3 tapes already setup in a stack and ready to pop right in.
I assume similar situations can be found in other titles.
I will be bringing 2 cameras just in case one breaks. But I will not be planning on setting up the second one just to tape me swapping tapes. The main problem with recording is the space the tripod takes up. And having 2 tripods will just be WAY too much to be confortable around.
That's what I meant. Thanks for the clarification. I know someone taking a camcorder, and it uses the VHS-C format, so the longest you can record on that is 90 minutes. 90 minutes is plenty of time for me, but the one bringing the camcorder will surely go over that.Quote:

Here's to working on Memorial day. :x
Yes. :D
Friday Tapper Marathon
Saturday Tapper TGTS 5-Man
Problem is the Marathon will take 15 - 16 hours to meet. Funspot is only open from 10am - 11pm on Friday and Saturday. Thursday the hours for the tournament are 12pm - 10pm. Sunday hours are 10am - 5pm. So I don't have the time to reach the goal. I WILL be trying to get in earlier than opening time if possible on Friday. I have heard of times in the past where the door was open an hour ahead of time. Last year I was able to get in 30 minutes early by waiting at the door. The second place marathon score is 5 million by Jack Gale. So I'm looking to break that for sure. The Mike Ward score of 9,068,625 is what my ultimate goal is going to be but I'll just feel the situation out after I get past 5 million. I should be able to estimate a finish time for the record. And if it looks like I will be allowed to complete the game to that point and stop then I will. Otherwise if it looks like a lost cause I may just stop between 5 - 9 million. :( I have come to find from past years that it is better to not bother Gary with the thoughts of these things ahead of time. He won't commit to anything. He spends tons of hours getting ready for the tournament and then stays there almost all day long during the tournament. So he ends up putting in 100 hours or so that week. If I catch him at a good time I might have a chance. Thursday I will be asking about getting in early as possible on Friday. But then Friday I will have to hope he is willing to stay when the record is inevitable. The more support I have from other players at the tournament on Friday (to let me play to the record) the more likely I will be allowed to stay and play. In past years there have been nights when the doors didn't get locked until 1am. However I know Gary is trying to get away from that. If they stay open that long this year, you will see a new marathon record set.
I like doing the marathon thing on Friday best because it is a day with less people. Since I will monopolize the game the entire day, I want to do it when there is less of a chance I am keeping someone from playing a game they came a long way to play. The TGTS games on Saturday typically last around 3.5 hours (of course I'm hoping to bust a nice long game out on that day too! :D )
You will want to make sure you note that with your description you send with the submission. TG expects 6 or 8 hour tapes...so if you dub over a bunch of VHS-C tapes they will see those breaks and wonder if anything odd was actually happening then.Quote:

If you planned on submitting the actual VHS-C tapes....you better check with whoever would be verifying that to see they have the VHS-C adapter thing to play those tapes in a regular VCR.
Are you doing a pacman run? If so...then no big thing lost on tape changes unless you happened to lose a man during the switchover.
I'm thinking of doing Pac-Man. I'll probably gauge it the first day to see if a lot of people are playing it or not. If not, then I might attempt a split screen, but I probably wouldn't be able to record it. Just for my own peace of mind. :)Quote:

Hello everyone.
I will have my vhs-c recorder with me too. I will be bringing tc-40 tapes which go 2 hours. I guess the only problem would then be is if he goes over 120 minutes. Rob may remember that I let him borrow my camera from two years ago...... he's from the "other" Medford, Medford Oregon..... I'm from Mass.
Anyway, I do have have an extra tc-40 tape which I can give him. If time permits, I can also dub it over to full size vhs and he can keep the tape I give him.
And to WC Greg, I will gladly tape the tape switching for you and we can simply put that part at the very end of the second vhs tape, as long as we don't do this during normal sleeping hours!
Carnival Fred
WCFred,
I didn't think there was such a thing as "normal sleeping hours" during an event like this for world champions such as ourselves! I suppose your gonna blame my tape kicking out of the VCR at 4am on your missing a million point C-ah-nival run 2 years ago! :D
See ya in a few days
