Submission Message	I've been playing Crossy Road since about a month after it came out, and have always wanted a place to compete with others, and about 2 weeks ago I found this website and have been working on this score since. It was much more difficult than I thought it would be, as I've taken some time off lately and have to get back into the swing of things. No audio unfortunately, once you get up to about 700-800+ the constant train bells become very difficult to ignore, so I opt to listen to music while I play. Other than that a pretty smooth run, and almost a new PB. The only 2 notables I can remember right away were around 1370 when the run was almost ended by a mis-click, and then at 1425 my iPad came unplugged, and I had to quickly re-plug it in without pausing, to avoid a low battery message from appearing which would have paused the game, I didn't want any interruptions whatsoever to keep the video as clean as possible. The run was done on an iPad Air 2, and took about 11 minutes 15 seconds to complete. I'm on everyplay @Jacob Spaulding, and YouTube @mega Grair, where this video can also be found.

What a great way to start...you crushed the old record! There was a pretty good back and forth on this track between Ronnie and Jacob a few months ago - maybe you showing up with this new big score will get the competition rolling again!

Its definitely shaken up this scoreboards and our (or my) big mouth. I am miles off this and think i will throw in the towel.
For me this started as a charity exercise initiated by my 5 year old, to an interesting sporting battle with a 'foe' @Jacobspring, and i think it ends here for me. (last plug www.justgiving.com/ronnie-weston sorry)

i just tried a moment ago and got 1170, way off.

I hope we brought some entertainment to this track, and i hope now you and I meeting on Everyplay (with the 1million+ crossy road users) will help bring some interest to twin galaxies, as i think that's how you found us right?

I'm not voting yes or not on this.

Couple of really dumb questions, hope someone will induldge me - I've asked before and got no real reply about these sorts of tracks - but I'll try again.

Playing games like this on iOS and Andriod - it's like a touch type game - you use your finger yes?

How do we know you played on iOS? I didn't see your finger in the video - heck I didn't even see the iPad.

Guessing you used some sort of iOS recording software - guess that's okay, but how do we know it was even a real iPad? How do we know it wasn't emulation.

Not having a go at your personally, just the fact that TG is allowing these sorts of records to be submitted for all. Just seems weird to me. Arcade players have to show they are using original hardware from nearly 40 years ago when they submit scores, but modern gamers don't event show they are using real hardware let alone controlling it with their hands.

My personal opinion is that iPad and the Andriod platform are aimed at tablet games, and as such, the video should show the player playing it with their hands - not software capturing the video. /end

In the case of Crossy Road, the iOS version is the only version with an ingame recording option. This has, in the past, been sufficient proof that this was indeed performed on an iOS device. I don't know if there's an iOS emulator out there though?
@Grair Vysa congratulations on an impressive score. I haven't played this game for months as an update around xmas or early this year (can't remember, feels like ages) made the game unplayable for me. The app would crash all the time both on my iPhone 6s and my daughters iPad2. Have you had those problems?

Thank you good Sir, your score will not be forgotten, nor will all of the amazing work you've done for an inspiring charity cause. I will be donating as soon as possible, thank you for opening my eyes to the charity you run for. I found TwinGalaxies via email, when I contacted Hipster Whale about possible official in game leaderboards/score events in CR or DCR, to which they replied they would love to introduce them in the future, but for now I could find the best official scores here in this website. So glad I found it, and I too hope some activity on Everyplay will spark some more interest in this really fun game. I am currently working on a road to PB series, with other ideas in mind over there my username is Jacob Spaulding.

Getting this score wasnt easy, I've only ever done better than that once, and that was when I got my PB of 1648. This is the best I've ever done while recording, though. If you don't want to push for higher scores I completely understand, it takes a lot of time, of which isn't always rediliy available these days (for my anyways). However, I can say with confidence, that I'm pretty sure the difficulty caps, or at least nearly levels off, around 1000-1200, after that it is sort of more about luck than skill, getting the right patching, and favorable forests can make all the difference. I hate using the term 'RNG'.... but I really do feel like it's mostly luck after a certain score, and seeing your replays on EveryPlay, I know you could best it eventually.

i thought the same thing too actually, watching some other scores on here where people had to show equipment I thought maybe just the screen capture wouldn't be enough. There is an option, I believe, to also record via front facing camera on the Crossy Road app, I could use that I guess, and play with a mirror in between myself and the device, allowing you to see the device is a regular iPad, with no other programs running or anything... then the gameplay would be inverted which may be weird... and it would add quite a bit to the upload size (and for me time), with a 11 min+ recording of both facecam and game play. With my internet it wouldn't work I'd say, which is why I didn't ask attempt it. Just the gameplay you see here took an hour and a half to upload. But I completely see where you're coming from, and understand your reasoning for not voting, thank you for the explanation, too.

Thank you, it was one of my best for sure. Unfortunate that you had problems after the xmas update, I didn't experience any on my iPad Air 2, but my friend did after an update on her iPhone 6 I believe, and on Disney Crossy Road I had some difficulties after an update about 6 months ago, forget which one, but it was fixed not long after, I think others were experiencing it too (game crashes mostly). I think I want to push for 1800 in the future... but for now I'm gonna focus on my road to PB series, and other games I think (unless someone beats this score right away, which would call for another attempt I think ;)).

You can always send a pic of your iPad showing the regulatory screen (to prove iOS device model) and a pic of your iPad showing the Crossy Road app displaying your personal best. Not iron clad but it's additional info.

When I record iOS runs I always have a screen capture of some type. Lately I've been mirroring to my PC then screen recording on the PC using OBS. I'm always sure to show the regulatory screen to prove it's an iPhone 6S and show the desktop and that no other apps are running.

Crossy Road (subtitled Endless Arcade Hopper on the App Store) is an arcade video game released on November 20, 2014. It was developed and published by Hipster Whale, with the name and concept of the game playing on the joke "Why did the chicken cross the road?"^[1] The game has been described as "endless Frogger."^[2][3][4]

Gameplay

The objective is to get as far as possible without dying. The player plays as a mascot (chicken, koala, bunny, etc) and must tap to go forward or swipe the screen in the appropriate direction to move the mascot horizontally. There are many obstacles which cause immediate death, such as rivers, cars, and trains. To get past, the player must advance when the path is clear or use platforms to cross rivers. If left idle or three steps are taken back, an eagle will snatch the mascot, resulting in the game's end. Every unit moved forward will earn a point, with every 50 points sounded out by an effect. Furthermore, gold coins used to unlock mascots are scattered throughout the environment.^[5]

Characters[edit]

The iOS version of Crossy Road contains 217 playable characters, including the default, Chicken: 182 unlockable characters and 32 "secret characters". The game only counts 214 because Piggy Bank, Psy, and Pac-Man are purchases, although Pac-Man is free. In addition, the Android version includes Android Robot, based on the operating system's logo. Other characters include Mallard, Doge, Archie, Dark Lord, and #thedress , a female character wearing the dress of the same name. Various references and games are also included, such as Forget-Me-Not and "Emo Goose" voiced by Phil Lester.

Coins[edit]

Coins are a currency, a yellow square with a red C in the middle, obtained in-game during gameplay, watching advertisements, completing tasks, collecting a free gift given every few real-time hours, and using legal currency to buy them in various amounts. Coins are counted the top right corner of the screen. 100 coins can be used for a chance at a new mascot from the lottery machine.^[5] If the player owns the Piggy Bank mascot, red coins worth five coins each are added to the game, and coins received from free gifts or watching ads are doubled.

Machine[edit]

The "Prize Machine" or "Machine" is a bulk vending machine that costs a certain amount of coins to obtain all except purchase-only characters and "secret characters". The machine can either spit out a new mascot or a mascot the player has already obtained. There is no time limit towards using the machine, but the amount of coins left interferes with using it.

Gifts[edit]

During the time the player has the app they earn chances to gain coins via free gifts. It takes some time to gain these free coins which commonly come in large amounts earned by waiting in intervals. As soon as the game is downloaded, the player receives a free gift. These intervals start at three second.

Development[edit]

Initially the developers planned to spend only six weeks developing the game, but afterwards realized the game's potential and dedicated another six weeks to completing it.^[6] The game's free-to-play model was based on the one for Dota 2.^[7] According to developer Matt Hall, Crossy Road drew inspiration from Frogger, Temple Run, Subway Surfers, Disco Zoo, Flappy Bird, Skylanders, Tiny Wings and Fez.^[8] The game's art style was created by Ben Weatherall.^[9]

Reception[edit]

The game was a finalist for the Game of the Year Award 2014 for the Australian Game Developer Awards.^[10] It received generally positive reviews with Metacritic giving the game a score of 88,^[11] TouchArcade giving the game 5/5 stars,^[5] BigBoomBoom.com giving the game 5/5 stars,^[12] Gamezebo Gaming giving the game 4.5/5 stars,^[13] and Apple N' Apps giving the game a 4/5 overall score.^[14] Polygon dubbed the game "brilliant" and compared it as an updated take on Frogger,^[2] while TIME called the game a mix of Frogger and Flappy Bird.^[15] At the 2015 Apple WWDC developer's conference Crossy Road was one of the winners of the 2015 Apple Design Awards.^[16]
Three months after its initial release, the game earned over $10 million and had over 50 million downloads.^[17]

In 2016, Hipster Whale and Disney Interactive Studios launched on iOS, Android, Windows Phone, and Windows 8.1 devices a spin-off named Disney Crossy Road. It features Disney characters like Mickey Mouse and Donald Duck, as well as some characters from numerous Disney franchises such as The Lion King, Tangled, Wreck-It Ralph and Pixar's Toy Story and Inside Out. In my last submission i used this method you mention here, screen capture as then its clear its iOS and its an iPad etc. However I had trouble capturing sound (probably my config). However it works well. I used Xmirage or something. To be fair the game does crash on occasion and also everyplay can blip out if you get an on screen event (ie text or some other notifications). I am not going to be rushing to attempt to beat this.....

....but..... if i did i'd probably go screen capture again....which i wont.

but i did get 1170 earlier.... but thats way short....but if erm...maybe tapped a little slower...aaaand......Aarrrrrgggggghhhh...no no no not going to even try...right?

I was able to get sound mirroring with AirServer but something happened - the sound started out in sync but by the end it was late. My iOS Sonic the Hedgehog is the one I just submitted where this happens. I dunno. But lagging sound is still better than none I guess.
