Defeating Molobros is no easy task(...I still haven't done it, lol! Haven't played as much as I've let on probably, but I will soon!).
Doing it with one extra heart and one lamp powerup is crazy!!!
I'm not sure, but I think you may have defeated the Black Dragon in the next to last stage you were in(where you got completely turned around on yourself, haha, I hate to admit, but that was pretty funny to watch-only YOU could have pulled yourself out of that hot mess tho, lol!).
Seems like I saw it pop out and there was frenetic shooting going on(you may have even got hit), but then it "left you alone".
Hmm. Mebbe the ability to defeat the Black Dragon is points based? You still only had one lamp and one heart.
It came out on me once, was weird(I explained this to the Author, he wasn't exactly sure either), in the room right before the Crystal Dragon(Nice job-the "autofire" in the game actually works well on the C.D.).
I had only collected Diamonds(obviously), and I think I hit the last room right as the timer expired, because the room didn't flash, and the Black Dragon was there.
If you remember the room, it has a small box in the middle-I ran it around in circles(similar to your Molobros strategy), must have hit it 50 darned times, and gave up.
Crazy, to me the Crystal Dragon is MUCH easier to defeat than the Revenant Dragon, and worth so many more points.
Also(I'm not too observant, you know that, lol!), "The End"-I think, even tho it's a setting where the game continues, you actually beat a "full game" when you beat Molobros, so you get that end screen, instead of "Game Over".
Again, I wouldn't friggin know...
