Re: Any Neo Geo owners here?
Still have mine. Had it for damn, nearly 15 years now. Have about 10 games for it too. I first checked in here for the AES games, but i now own 2 Neo Geo cabs (4 slot and 6 slot) with about 30 games. Glad all the MVS games are on the lists. As soon as I buy a old VHS camara, scoreboard here I come!!!
Re: Any Neo Geo owners here?
Hello fellow Neo Geo fans!
So, I'm a little confused here. Can we submit high scores for games played on a AES system or MVS cabinet? Thanks in advance.
Re: Any Neo Geo owners here?
I own a AES since January this year. I got 2 controls and 4 games. Those are Ninja Combat, Alpha Mission 2, Samuarai Shodown and Metal Slug 4 :)
My system is japanese and that is the only region I buy AES from cause I dont like the censorship in the westernregions and I dont like to play around with the BIOS. I hope to buy more games for this system when I can cause I like some of the games. However it would be much better if the AES had more Beat em Up games than Fighting cause Beat em Up is funnier to play and gives more variation.
It is sad that they made Double Dragon to a Fightinggame when it was much better as a Beat em Up :(

The AES is region free.
Anyway, to me there is little incentive to purchase an AES unless you just have to have portability. Even then, one is better off with a consolized MVS board or at least the AES with the MVS converter.
The games are an absolute money pit. The original Metal Slug for MVS I got for $40. For the AES, if you can even find it at all, it's going for $2,500-$3,000.
The cheapest one can usually find AES titles for is around the $50-$60 mark, and these are the early releases like SamSho, Nam 75, Blue's Journey, etc. Anything that came later that used bank switching (and some before) is off the charts ranging from $300-$19,000 for the game. If you're a collector and you're collecting, that's one thing. But to play? Better off finding a cab somewhere or a consolized setup for a few hundred bucks, and spend on average $50-$100 for the MVS carts of your choice.
Re: Any Neo Geo owners here?
I know that it is regionfree but there is censorship in the European and North American version and thats why I only buy the AES systems from Japan :)
Now recently I ve recieved a pakage from Japan with the games Fatal Fury 2 and Fatal Fury Special. I was a long time since I bought games for my AES before these 2 games
Re: Any Neo Geo owners here?
Right, but the censorship has nothing to do with the system, it's in the carts. Put a Japanese cart in a North American AES and it's identical to the Japanese system.
If by, "system" you mean, "cart", then yes there are differences. If by, "system" you mean the "console" itself, there is no censorship differences.
Re: Any Neo Geo owners here?
It is controlled by the BIOS as far as I know. I put american carts in my japanese system and they turn into japanese
Some people who modify AES systems usually change the BIOS to get past the censorship and according to them it works that way. I have not tried it myself though
Re: Any Neo Geo owners here?
Well, I may very well be wrong then and stand corrected.

I know this is old but it seems like Ironclad was added for the AES. So now there's a NG title.
Even though Ironclad was never released for the AES and exists only as a bootleg... *sigh*
But we can't get the launch title Nam 75 listed? Oh, but it's listed for MAME. None of this makes any sense.
