Hi Crimefighter:
Only Walter Day has the authority, or pull, to arrange such a major event at the Mall. Last year, as you might have heard, there was an issue over reservations and deposits that was problematic. When combined with other TG concerns at around the same moment in time, Walter was put in the unenviable position of having to decide against proceeding with a Mall-based event. There was simply too little time, from that moment on, to plan accordingly.
I cannot speak on Walter's behalf as to whether an event of that magnitude will occur definitively, so let's wait his reply.

I personally would say screw the mall cuz given the mall screwed TG over by allowing a different event there instead that weekend, they can certainly do it again.
...so why take the risk?
There are likely other locations it could be held if cost is an issue....perhaps even a location like a school's gymnasium or something would even work...provided the power can be made available to handle all the games.
just think of the resonance! hehe
There are likely some hotels with meeting/conference/ball rooms etc. that would host it also...provided they were sponsored as the place to stay for those attending the event from out of town.
I think many hotels would have a decent deal for any event that brings them customers.
Well...is there any other midwest venues you'd consider? I would not be able to travel to the west coast or east coast.
Awwww come on Permafrostrick the idea to suggest a school Gymnasium now thats REAL cheap. I mean ok i can understand a budget and all but if we are reduced to that type of hosting event it wouldnt say much for our organization. Unless we were sponcering such an event that entailed School competitional playoffs then maybe i think Walter and the TG personal may concider a Gymnasium. Now for the Hotels idea certainly thats resaonable because they have a certain type of name they bring to the table. Like MGM Grand , The Plaza and lets not forget Ceasar's Palace. Im sure they may be cheaper even then the great Mall of America. Just think of the head lines now as players from all over the globe compete head to head at Ceasar's . I wonder how the title billing would read on their banner signs outside????????? Would ESPN cover it like they do the Poker games or Boxing?

There is actually a big arcade show in the midwest in May. Do you really want to have TG sponsor one only a month later in almost the same area of the country?

Perhaps it could add Friday to that schedule also and TG use for the video game championships!
That way, the event is essentially already planned...just needs some coordination with TG to make sure certain games would be there and if TG can use certain games for a tournament with prizes etc.
unless that event already has something like that planned, they might welcome it.
Well maybe I'll go and attend THIS event...
He's hoping the event can happen this year. I was planning on taking some games to the show last year, but I don't think I'll be able to do that this year. :(
 Maybe it would be possible to alliance with G4's G-phoria / Glow Awards. (They would be able to award for games, as well as the gamers, and they definately would have the power and ability to assitst)
Being that I live in MN, it would be a shame to not see this event happen again.
If not MOA, I know of a vacant building (old SAM's club in Inver Grove Heights) east of MOA along 494.
Walter, any chance of looking into this?
