Fellow gamers:
As chief referee for Twin Galaxies, it has been my pleasure these past two years to have officiated over previous competitions on all three "Crazy Taxi" releases covering the Sega Dreamcast and the Microsoft Xbox. The competitions attracted gamers from all across the globe, and resulted in performances that were unparalleled, many of
which still stand unchallenged after two years of gamer submissions.
A few of the records approached, but did not pass, significant thresholds for certain events. And that is the purpose of this worldwide challenge to all serious "Crazy Taxi" gamers.
Effective June 1st, 2003, I am personally putting up five (5) "Crazy Bounties" relating to "Crazy Taxi" 1, 2 and 3. But unlike previous Twin Galaxies competitions, these will have a much longer contest deadline, with an expiration date of December 31st, 2004, because this is not a traditional Twin Galaxies competition. Rather, I am offering these "Bounties" as an individual interested in this title who wishes to see just how fast or high some of these records can reach. The associated "Crazy Bounty" prizes will be my personal gift to the gamer(s) meeting the requirements outlined below for one or more of these speciic challenges.
Each "Crazy Bounty" relates to a specific challenge within "Crazy Taxi" 1, 2 or 3. There are five (5) "Crazy Bounties" in total, each one with it's own prize depending on it's difficulty. This covers "Crazy Taxi 1" and "Crazy Taxi 2" for the Sega Dreamcast platform only, and "Crazy Taxi 3" for the Microsoft Xbox platform.
A special forum will be established on the Twin Galaxies website relating to this competition so that all gamers can alert me immediately upon their achieving one or more of the threshold records necessary to claim that particular "Bounty", as well as the date they physically mailed me the submission from their local post office or courier service of choice. Claimants are encouraged to make use of this forum. All submitters are STRONGLY encouraged to send their submission tape(s) via insured
mail, for their own safety and to ensure that their submission tape(s) reach me safely for verification. I will use the Twin Galaxies assigned contest forum to alert all gamers as to when a submission package arrives, and when the "Crazy Bounty" submission has been completely and successfully verified. Gamers are also encouraged to make a backup copy of their VHS videocassette performance(s) for their own protection prior to sending your submission tape(s).
Once a particular "Crazy Bounty" has been claimed and fulfilled by a gamer, that portion of the contest is officially over, permanently. All unclaimed "Crazy Bounties" will be in effect for as long as necessary until a gamer is successful in achieving the requirements for that individual challenge and has the related performance submitted and verified.
Here now are the general submission guidelines, followed by the specifics of each "Crazy Bounty", and then the legalese section...
*******************************
GENERAL GUIDELINES
1st - Each "Crazy Bounty" challenge is open to all Sega Dreamcast for "Crazy Taxi 1 & 2" and Microsoft Xbox owners for "Crazy Taxi 3" ONLY. PC submissions are not accepted. Sony PS2 and GameCube submissions are not accepted. Emulation submissions are not accepted.
2nd - Only the first (1st) gamer to submit a verified performance for a specific challenge shall be eligible to collect the "Crazy Bounty" assigned to that specific challenge. Once a "Crazy Bounty" has been successfully claimed it cannot be awarded a second time, either to the same submitter or a different submitter.
3rd - All submissions must be recorded onto VHS videocassette ONLY in either standard NTSC, standard PAL or PAL-M format. Submissions in either SECAM, M-SECAM or BETA formats will not be allowed for this competition. Further, submissions in digital or 8MM formats will not be allowed for this competition.
Further, all submissions that are recorded in a format other than NTSC, meaning submissions outside the continental United States, absolutely MUST be recorded at "2 hour speed", meaning a standard 120 minute VHS videocassette will reach the end of the spool after recording at this speed for approximately 2 hours. The reason is that the PAL converter available to me cannot handle conversion of tapes recorded at extended play mode otherwise known as "EP", "LP", "SLP" or "XP" mode on most videocassette recorders.
4th - All submission performances must be recorded in their ENTIRETY. However, recording a "Replay" submission from either "Crazy Taxi 2" or "Crazy Taxi 3" is NOT allowed or accepted for this competition. There are NO exceptions.
5th - Useage of "Turbo Controllers" is expressly prohibitted. Useage of any game enhancement device such as a "Game Shark" or "Game Genie" is expressly prohibitted.
6th - Useage of any game "codes" to increase the speed or performance of your vehicle is expressly prohibitted.
7th - Once a successful "Crazy Bounty" submission is received and verified, providing it meets the requirements for that specific challenge, I will personally award the claimant(s) the "Crazy Bounty"associated with that specific challenge sixty (60) days from the postmark or postal carrier date on their submission package(s).
8th - All submissions will be mailed to myself, the chief referee for Twin Galaxies, at the following home mailing address...
Robert T Mruczek
179 North 7th Street
Brooklyn, New York 11211-2905
USA
9th - All submissions must include a completed and signed "Twin Galaxies Player Agreement/Submission" form which can be downloaded from the Twin Galaxies website in either standard PDF format or Microsoft Word format. As per Twin Galaxies guidelines, submitters under the age of 18 MUST have a parent or legal guardian co-sign the submission form. Further, you must be a minimum of thirteen (13) years old in order to submit an eligible performance
Although this is not an event hosted by Twin Galaxies, I am requiring that this specific form and it's signature requirements be part of each gamer's eligible submission package.
10th - To make it crystal clear as this is my own personal money at stake here, each "Crazy Bounty" can only be awarded ONCE AND ONCE ONLY TO THE FIRST GAMER SUBMITTING A VERIFIED AND ELIGIBLE PERFORMANCE FOR THAT CHALLENGE.
11th - In the event of multiple gamers achieving the threshold for a specific "Bounty" at the same time, that "Bounty" will be awarded to the FIRST submission received by Twin Galaxies based on the postmark on the gamer's submission package.
12th - In the unlikely event that multiple gamers simultaneously submit eligible performances for the same "Crazy Bounty" on the same day, bearing the same postmark or postal carrier date, the "Bounty" shall be split evenly between the gamers submitting eligilble and verified performances for that particular challenge.
13th - Contest is void where prohibitted by law. As I am personally rewarding eligible gamer(s) with a "Crazy Bounty" upon submission and verification of an eligible performance, anyone over the age of 13 may participate including a Twin Galaxies employee, staffer or referee, or their families. However, I, myself, will not be eligible for participation.
Now then, here are the five (5) "Crazy Bounties" and the specific submission rules governing each, followed by a section covering the "legalese", and them my final comments for all potential participants.
*******************************
CRAZY BOUNTY # 1 - ACHIEVING A 400.00 YARD "CRAZY JUMP" OR MORE IN MINI-GAME (1-1) WITHIN "CRAZY TAXI 1" (SEGA DREAMCAST)
(Current verified World Record is 380.52 yards achieved by Martin Bedard on March 5th, 2002)
The "Crazy Bounty" for this event shall be USD $100.00 (One Hundred U.S. Dollars)
Special Requirements
1st - Gamer MUST enact the controller code that displays the speedometer BEFORE starting their vehicle. The controller code necessary involves inserting a second controller into the 3rd controller port and pressing the "X" button five (5) times on the 2nd controller in succession while holding down the "start" button on the 2nd controller. If done properly, the speedometer will be displayed in the lower right hand corner.
2nd - Submissions that do not enact the speedometer code will NOT be eligible for the "Crazy Bounty", and there are NO EXCEPTIONS to this rule.
3rd - Any cabbie is permissible. Useage of either a cab or "bike/cart/rickshaw" is permissible.
4th - For the jump to qualify, the vehicle MUST be facing foward; turning the cab 180 degrees and "bouncing" on your rear bumper until the car comes to a halt and the jump is registered is NOT allowed.
Special Note - to date, one (1) unofficial and unverified jump in excess of 400 yards has been reported, and was visually seen with the summer 2001 "Crazy Taxi" submission by Hadley Rones of London. He is currently the 2nd place record holder in the world at this competition with a jump of 378.16 yards, but did not capture an earlier jump on VHS videocassette prior to the summer 2001 competition, so I know for a fact that a jump of 400 yards or more is possible.
CRAZY BOUNTY # 2 - ACHIEVING A SUB-60 SECOND "CRAZY PARTY" COMPLETION IN MINI-GAME (S-3) WITHIN "CRAZY TAXI 1" (SEGA DREAMCAST)
(Current verified World Record is 1:00.75 min/sec achieved by Cristiano Assumpcao on July 4th, 2001)
4th - Passengers may be picked up in any sequence, so long as all passengers are picked up before coming to a full stop in the goal area.
Special Note - With the current world record less than one whole second away from breaking the one minute barrier, this is the "Crazy Bounty" most likely to be claimed, in my opinion.
CRAZY BOUNTY # 3 - ACHIEVING A SUB-2:30 "CRAZY ATTACK" COMPLETION IN MINI-GAME (S-S) WITHIN "CRAZY TAXI 1" (SEGA DREAMCAST)
(Current verified World Record is 2:39.10 achieved by Brennan Sweeney on July 2nd, 2001)
The "Crazy Bounty" for this event shall be USD $150.00 (One Hundred and Fifty U.S.
4th - Gamer may execute any path possible so long as all of the "checkpoints" are crossed before reaching the final goal area. In total there are seven (7) "checkpoints" in this challenge, followed by the final goal area.
5th - Useage of the "Crazy Warp" is expressly prohibitted...this means warping from one section of the course to another due to known glitches within the program. The two known "Crazy Warps" that would affect this challenge are (A) from the Heliport to the R&B Station and (B) from the Divider prior to the bus station to the Landmark before the Firehouse.
Special Note - After having compared the checkpoint-to-checkpoint break times of the top three world record holders, I am certain that if the best times from each segment were achieved in one single performance, a sub-2:30 performance is definitely possible, though extremely difficult to achieve, thus the higher "Crazy Bounty" reward.
CRAZY BOUNTY # 4 - ACHIEVING A HOLE-IN-ONE IN "CRAZY GOLF" MINI-GAME (5-2) WITHIN "CRAZY TAXI 2" (SEGA DREAMCAST)
(This achievement has NEVER been accomplished under normal conditions)
(Current verified World Record for longest golf drive is 833.67 yards by Dave Cramer on August 21st, 2001)
The "Crazy Bounty" for this event shall be USD $200.00 (Two Hundred U.S. Dollars)
Special Requirements
1st - Gamer MUST enact the controller code that displays the speedometer BEFORE starting their vehicle. The controller code necessary involves inserting a second controller into the 3rd controller port and pressing the "Up" directional button five (5) times on the 2nd controller in succession while holding down the "start" button on the 2nd controller. If done properly, the speedometer will be displayed in the lower right hand corner. It is my experience that enacting this code in "Crazy Taxi 2" is easiest by pressing start once the timer starts counting down.
2nd - Submissions that do not enact the speedometer code will NOT be eligible for the "Crazy Bounty", and there are NO EXCEPTIONS to this rule.
3rd - Any cabbie is permissible. Useage of either a cab or "bike/cart/rickshaw/carriage" is permissible.
4th - The golf ball may only be hit ONCE AND ONCE ONLY by your vehicle.
5th - A "Hole in One" will be accepted whether the golf ball sinks into the cup on the fly or if it bounces in or rolls in.
Special Note - This "Crazy Bounty" is the toughest challenge of the five. Current world record holder Dave Cramer estimates that a drive of close to 1,000 yards might be required to get a "Hole in One". Due to the extreme difficulty of executing drives in excess of 800 yards, I am not really sure whether achieving a "Hole in One" is possible under the aformentioned contest guidelines (i.e. no cheating), thus the reward for this "Crazy Bounty" is the highest. Thus, getting a "Hole in One" in this challenge under the aformentioned guidelines will certainly be a RARE achievement indeed, just like in professional golf !!
CRAZY BOUNTY # 5 - ACHIEVING A 1000.00 METER "CRAZY JUMP" OR MORE IN MINI-GAME (1-A) WITHIN "CRAZY TAXI 3" (MICROSOFT XBOX)
(Current verified World Record is 964.04 meters achieved by Brian Ehlert on May 31st, 2002)
The "Crazy Bounty" for this event shall be USD $100.00 (One Hundred U.S. Dollars)
Special Requirements
1st - Any cabbie is permissible. Useage of either a cab or "bike/cart/rickshaw/carriage" is permissible.
2nd - For the jump to qualify, the vehicle MUST be facing foward; turning the cab 180 degrees and "bouncing" on your rear bumper until the car comes to a halt and the jump is registered is NOT allowed.
3rd - As there is now speedometer controller code known to for "Crazy Taxi 3", this challenge does not require a speedometer code.
Special Note - The highest reported but unverified jump in this event is 968.29 meters by Dave Cramer. I'd like to believe that with more gamers giving this event attention, someone sooner or later will break the significant 1000 meter threshold and claim the associated "Crazy Bounty".

LEGALESE AND DISCLAIMER SECTION
(Some of what follows may be a repeat of the above, but it is required so that there is absolute clarity in the rules and spirit of this contest)
1st - Each of the five (5) "Crazy Bounties" shall only be payable once and once only, each to the first gamer that submits a verified accomplishment that meets all of the criteria for the specific challenge for which they are submitting. After a "Crazy Bounty" has been successfully claimed for one of the five (5) challenges, that "Crazy Bounty" shall be null and void effective immediately. Announcement of the change of status of each "Crazy Bounty" shall be posted publicly on the Twin Galaxies website forum under the specific forum category governing this competition.
2nd - The sum of the five (5) "Crazy Bounties" as described in the above contest parameters is seven hundred and fifty US dollars ($750.00) which is the maximum possible financial outlay by chief referee Robert T Mruczek thru the duration of the competition assuming gamer(s) are able to achieve each of the five (5) target thresholds associated with these "Bounties" within the contest guidelines.
3rd - In the unlikely event that multiple gamers simultaneously submit eligible performances for the same "Crazy Bounty" on the same day, bearing the same postmark or postal carrier date, the "Bounty" shall be split evenly between the gamers submitting eligilble and verified performances for that particular challenge.
4th - Contest is void where prohibitted by law. As I am personally rewarding eligible gamer(s) with a "Crazy Bounty" upon submission and verification of an eligible performance, anyone over the age of 13 may participate including a Twin Galaxies employee, staffer or referee, or their families. However, I, myself, will not be eligible for participation.
5th - Twin Galaxies Chief referee, Robert T Mruczek, will personally award these "Crazy Bounties" sixty (60) days after the eligible performance for a specific "Crazy Bounty" challenge has been submitted and verified.
6th - As I will be personally paying these "Bounties", I am considering the "Bounty" my personal "gift" to the gamer(s) that submit an eligible and verified performance for the challenge or challenges that they have successfully accomplished within contest guidelines.
7th - The contest deadline is December 31st, 2004. All submissions MUST be postmarked no later than December 31st, 2004 in order to be eligible for consideration. MY FINAL COMMENTS FOR ALL POTENTIAL PARTICIPANTS
Gamers who have participated in the Summer 2001 competitions for "Crazy Taxi 1 & 2" which I hosted on behalf of Twin Galaxies have come to know me as being a fair, impartial and honest referee, as have the many other gamers which have participated in Twin Galaxies sanctioned competitions that I have acted in the capacity of contest administrator for, and as hundreds of gamers over the past two years during my service as chief referee for the Twin Galaxies Intergalactic Scoreboard.
Although I am a referee for Twin Galaxies, I have been and always shall be a gamer, first and foremost, and it is from my deep appreciation for the "Crazy Taxi" series that the idea for offering these "Crazy Bounties" originated. Quite simply, I want to see how high or fast gamers can push the five (5) selected events above.
I truly hope that each of the five (5) challenges is met by one or more gamers across the globe as such achievements are what competetive gaming is all about...the pursuit of excellence at a particular game title. Speaking both for myself as a gamer, and as chief referee for the Twin Galaxies Intergalactic Scoreboard, I wish all Crazy Taxi gamers across the globe the best of luck, and skill, in trying to win these "Crazy Bounties".
Sincerely,
