Welcome to TG Justin!
Congrats on a fine drive! And great to see the 7800 get some love :-)
However you submission lacks some key areas of evidence.
Generally we need to see the console boot up and console,
a full recording of your submission from start to finish.
So for that readying have voted No.
Dont be discouraged, just take a look at some other submissions in the queue to see what I’m talking about.
Usually the re-sub yields a better score!
Looking forward to seeing some more of your gameplay soon!
I think when this happens, it bums some of us regulars out as badly as the person submitting.
I agree with the points Nads made, and also agree with the sentiment that you can do it again, mebbe even better!
Don't be discouraged, just get a little more on tape and resubmit.
Looking forward to see what you can do, definitely nice to see the 7800 getting some action!!!
Question - are there actually any relevant settings for this game on the 7800? I admit I haven't played mine enough to remember, and I don't see anything on other submissions with video.
Unfortunately, due to a lack of console bootup and incomplete recording, I have to reject this as well. I'm sure you've got potential, but you have to remember to show your console at the beginning of the recording as well as the console booting up.
As for settings, there aren't any for Pole Position II. Difficulty switches aren't used, and the only 'selections' are the four different tracks.
Just wondering how much we feel showing the console and boot up here is *really* necessary, at least for a user's first submission. There aren't settings to worry about, the tracks are easy to tell apart, and the score isn't even the max out score.
Sure, this could be done via an emulator redirected through various means to a TV with reduced video quality. Or a modded console. But even if it was, this isn't a new world record, so I don't see a reason to go through such effort. I think I'm good with accepting it, and @Burntsn0w just needs to know that future submissions will need better evidence.
I'm politely gonna try to stay out of stuff like this from now on, the TI-99 sub, etc-
I'm also, I guess, lol, going to finally acknowledge that I'm not "new" to this scene anymore(tho some have been around decades).
It appears some of my thinking may have became outdated-I feel as if I am trying to represent the feelings of some of the people who have mentored me along the way and are no longer around, permanently or temporarily, and either times are simply changing(it happens, and whatever is, is, is fine with me[hehe-hard to pull off three is's in a row...]), or I just don't have the "scene credibility" to back up my opinions.
I've only been vocal on stuff like this lately, and was honestly trying to "step up a little and do my part", but for the most part I just seem to muck things up.
No worries, frustration, anything like that on my part, I hate anything resembling being a grown-up anyway, so it was kinda a pita, but I'll likely keep my opinions on rules to myself from now on.
This is the major problem with the Community/ leaders of @TWIN GALAXIES on this adjudication system. There needs to concrete policies for each platform on what is required evidence. This back and forth either turns new users off, or confuses them. It could also lower the quality of evidence packages for elder submitters, if we make exceptions to new users, cause they innocently didn't know. Then their could be a argument made for a elder submitter to not show boot up/ Settings/ etc.
Here is another thing about this sub that makes me bring up another question. Did he use a Atari controller? Maybe he used a Genesis Controller. If he did, is that okay? Does TG even have that defined yet? Or if it is, do we the community check on that consistenly? Is that information made easily available for new user to see before they hit the submit button?
IMO we should never lower the standards just because it isn't a new world record/ top score. That doesn't create consistency. Less consistency creates less confidence/creditability in TG.
That's a good question. As I've state before in other submissions, the *best* scenario in which to bring up this concern is when it is a submission from a new member. Doing so sets the tone for future submission habits for that member. I say this from personal experience with my first submission not long ago. Not doing so has a high risk of perpetuating the substandard submission practice, in conjunction with a few people having the typical history of saying in scenarios such as these that may arise in the future, "but this was accepted this other time", and no doubt would happen again with those same people pointing to this specific submission as their justification for the substandard practice to continue. As far as it being something other than a #1 record as justification for letting it pass the TGSAP process, imho the submission's potential rank on the scoreboard is irrelevant, and having one standard for #1 potential ranks, but different standards for lower ranks would not be a good idea.
As for me, I will have to vote no, even though the actual gameplay itself is 100% legit. There is a reason (in fact, multiple reasons) why almost everyone else includes console boot in their Atari 2600/5200/7800 submissions.
