End of The Monthly Challenges
I know this will come as a shock for many.. and I am quite sure I'll be recieving emails from people complaining about this choice, criticizing me for this choice.. and others yet who will say how dare I do this... but after over 10 years of ongoing monthly Mame challenges, it has come to an end for the time being.
Now.. the reason why is quite obvious. Almost no one is interested in participating anymore. I know it's not been because I've been picking poor title choices [outside of 1 or 2].. literally the submissions themselves have spoken volumes. Almost none. Oh sure, a lot of people mentioning they're going to submit.. but nothing from the majority of them and for a majority of reasons. All in all.. it boils down to the same result. A few people, if even, and that's it.
Quite honestly.. since the weekly challenges came forth, no one really wants a monthly challenge. Apparently it's too long for most peoples taste.. or so I am seeing from the very active competition.
I don't fault it in the least though. Kinda wish I had seen the signs sooner and was able to readjust accordingly.
Now, I will probably restart up the monthly challenges in the future.. or maybe make them bi-weekly.. still haven't figured out anything yet. But for now, my main focus is on prepping stuff for a Mame Deca for later this year and trying to make that fresh in appearance and give it a new spin to bring more love to it.
So fear not, all is not abandoned.. just merely at rest.

Re: End of The Monthly Challenges
Well done, Kelly, for keeping it going so long after Robert's departure. An understandable (temporary?) conclusion. :)
Re: End of The Monthly Challenges
Any chance of someone else taking this over? That is until Kelly (if ever) starts it back up again.
As a previous winner (Gigawing), I would hate to see the monthly MAME challenge disappear..
I have participated in most of the challenges, but my poor scores didn't even get in the top 5 or so, so I didn't send them in, probably like most people didn't post them. But we do try to take part.

The weekly score challenge is sufficient enough for the time being. When the time comes, this will be properly resurrected and fresher looking.

Kelly,
Not the most regular of submitters by a long way, but thanks for keeping this going. I've enjoyed watching even when I haven't had chance to play.
Cheers

Re: End of The Monthly Challenges
So...I dont know about anyone else, but Im keen for this to come back. Whether it be weekly/monthly/whatever, I'd love to see some competitive MAME action around here.
I'd even be happy to organize and run it.
Chime in with your ideas if you are keen.
Re: End of The Monthly Challenges
Koos restarted the weekly MAME challenges.
I think if you post on here if you want to start them back up, no one would mind.
If you did restart them, it would be MAME: COTW#112 as the subject line with the name of the game you chose.
The last one #111 was Avalanche, and Mingy Jongo won with 2286.
Re: End of The Monthly Challenges
Yeah the last COTW was in Feb haha.
I was thinking something more official, but that seems unlikely given TG's ref situation at present.
