New Atari 2600 Gamepad

These will be hitting the market soon, here:

Some games really benefit from a pad. The 7800 Euro pad is ok, but this appears to have a better D-pad, and buttons. The Atari-ish colors are a nice touch, too. I'm especially interested in how the built in paddle will perform, and hold up.

I need new controllers for my 2600 and have always enjoyed the original joystick style for my games, but I'm aware a lot of the new aftermarket sticks just do not hold up well at all.

It seems odd, to me, anyway, to play a 2600 game with a d-pad, but if it's a quality build that would hold up, I'd give them a shot. Just a d-pad design in general seems like it would hold up better in a lot of cases because you're not putting so much torque on a stick. I know many people have sworn by Genesis controllers for the 2600 for years.

I haven't adjudicated in a long while - are Genesis controllers generally accepted on Atari subs? I would assume these would be treated the same way?

Genesis controllers are acceptable for 2600 submissions. I think they work great on the 2600, but some games may act weird when using one. Also, when using a multi-cart, you typically have to hold down the B button when powering up, or it won't acknowledge the controller.

Nice, thanks for the heads up Terence. I just ordered one on Amazon. Hopefully the paddle control works on my C64s, Atari 8-Bit and MSX2 machines. Odd they don't have the C64 and the Atari computers listed as supported machines but I highly doubt there will be any issues.
