What would you put more value in.

Having lots of records on a platform or being #1 on the platform.

So lets say you have 30 records on a platform like Atari 2600, and are ranked 20th on that leaderboard. Are you happy with having the 30 records or would you want to be number 1 on the platform and maybe not as many records but more scores that aren't #1.

For most platforms, it's difficult to imagine the 1st spot being taken without having a raft of 1st places across the games. For someone to be top of the platform without a single record would take a lot of second places.

Anyway, participation is my thing, so I'm not too fussed about either of those. :)

I couldn't see committing that hardcore to one platform, to be honest.
Right now, I definitely focus on 4-way stick arcade gaming, but I was playing F-1 2015 on PC(taking advantage of supercomputer Sweet, Loving Wife got me)mostly, before I took on Burgertime.
Recently started a "shelf" of old systems, NES, SNES, Megadrive, etc, that I had in boxes, started picking up games for them, I'm sure I'll go there next.

There's no right or wrong reply to your question, but I'm too all-over-the-place to commit to one system, truly.

We all kinda want to be "known", "accepted", "appreciated" for a particular niche, that is basic human behavior.

But I'm mostly interested in amusing myself each day in the way that seems the most interesting that day.

For all I know, I'll spend all of next week playing Metroid Pinball on the DS, for no particular reason.
(Except that it's one of the best games ever. Not my style, but awesome!)

BUT-I definitely can understand someone committing to one system, their favorite.
I keep Tarantulas, which is a generic term to some, but the varieties that exist are astoundingly different. Most of my spiders are Avicularia, "Pink Toes", because I like them the best. Some don't understand why I keep several species of a spider that seem very similar, but aren't, to the trained observer. I like the subtle differences.

I can see that with game systems, particularly the VCS.
Taking NOTHING away from the skills of the gamers that play VCS games(which I will join the ranks of soon), if(BIG if) you can get good at some VCS games, you have a chance to take them all on. They are vastly different games, but the "style" of playing, on some systems, is similar from game to game.

    (This is sooo long, sorry).
Staying on the VCS-I think you could compare it to being a great skateboarder, and going to a new skatepark. If you are good enough, it might take you a little while-but you will amaze people before you leave for the day.

Pretty out there. I have to hold my breath pretty hard to stay this deep.

    Haha!

    :P

I came to TG to put up NES scores and that's the platform I could fathom being ranked the highest on, but it is less important for me to be top 5 NES than to be top 20 on many platforms.

I'd rather have the breadth but still show proficiency by being higher ranked on each platform, but on many platforms. I'm no spectacular gamer so being #1 on any platform isn't likely. But through diligence I could be top 20 on many.

I always said this the level many of us play on deserves a large paycheck like any other sport, I came here as pride and respect, but it's time something be taken further for the gamer's if not for myself the short time I continue to be active, well make it happen for the up coming gamer's....

In short though yes I came here for #1 scores and all around gaming.....

Someone having the most psi or esi does not automatically compare to me in any shape or form nor many gamer's... it's a broken tool

what does count in my book is being top 5 in any game, fastest completion or score, nothing else matters.....

In closing since I don't make a paycheck for this stuff in 2012 I was sanctioned as the console player of the century, have the first ever 0 score on a complete game, and currently hold more perfect scores on the NES than anyone....

So in conclusion I compete the be the next one and only Rudy J. Ferretti I am now 37 and eventually windows close, eyes strain but they never stop working as day one, reaction time gets better, what does go is joints and I take anti inflammation spices, and drinks but, it only goes so far....

I know my time will come to hang it up and so will everyone else's lets hope we can see that true all around league come light of day soon!!!!!

Lots of you young retro and modern gamers all around deserve to be paid....

If you decide to reply to my post and I do not respond do not be offended it's just because I have you on ignore!!!!!

Merry Christmas god it feels great to say that for the first time in 8 years

Money ultimately comes from viewers. They buy the products that the sponsors pay to advertise. Being the top player of a game -- or a whole platform -- is very exciting to some, but unless the masses pay to watch, there will never be paychecks for the players.
