Part of the problem here is that modern-era gamers are often content creators, part of gaming teams, are sponsored, and cultivate their online personae/gaming handle all as part of an effort to make gaming both their primary source of income and a doorway to fame and fortune.

Putting this all together, it is a very powerful lure to be on top...at any cost.

But when caught, here's the problem. Much as when a MLB player such as a Mark MaGuire or Barry Bonds is found to have used PEDs and/or HGH to enhance their HR totals, while you can expunge the records themselves, the damage is far too extensive to undo. Entire games were won as a direct result, standings were impacted, opposing teams were cheated out our pennant races and championships while some teams unfortunately went on to such events which should not have. Gate receipts that should have went to some teams went to others and so forth. That type of damage cannot easily be undone, and in many cases is left as is much to the detriment of those sporting venues.

There is no mechanism to take back undue accolades and intangible benefits which accumulate over the years. And while presentation awards can be rescinded, and cash awards can be taken back thru legal actions, nothing can be done about T&E fees paid for so that such gamers can attend certain events at the expense of sponsors and so forth.

Thus the lure to be "on top" for so very long is too much of an incentive for some gamers to pass up. Some build massive online followings, and even accept online "support" cash from loyal fans, yet when caught cheating inexplicably still maintain a fan base or supporters to a lesser degree as you can't stop people from being fans of a cheater as it's a free-will decision they must make for themselves...not unlike how die-hard political supporters stand behind politicians with their hand caught in the proverbial cookie jar and far worse as we have seen, especially in recent months.

Overall, decades back, elite-level cheaters could parlay their ill-gotten achievements into a number of small-dollar assignments, appearances, etc, and generally were held in high esteem by their gaming community (until they were caught). But nowadays such a gamer can carve out an entire career which piggy-backs on top of these ill-gotten scores to the point where the coat-tails can be ridden for years-on-end until caught. And there's just no taking it all back once given...the gamer reaps the tangible and intangible benefits. Awards can be yanked, and in some cases cash awards, but the "ride" itself cannot be rescinded. The gamer enjoyed living the good life (in gaming) for awhile.

There is no "gamer jail" outside of the gamer being fired from any game-related assignments, teams, sponsorships and in generally being banned from certain titles...at best they can be ostracized by the gaming community, unless they take the extreme and egotistical route of engaging in some kind of "Road to Redemption" as one such cheater has been doing for the past year or so.

One thought...the most extreme cheaters often have the most extreme and stand-offish responses when it comes to their false scores being questioned. Not always, but most of the time, and I find that very telling indeed.

I havent watched the vid yet but this is really sad. I read through the full cheating doc the other day and it doesn't sound good for riolu. Hes been one of the best TM players for a long time (he once held all 200 WRs on Trackmania Turbo, and still has just over half). Who knows if they are true runs or not :(

I really hope its not true for the sake of the game and community but its hard to deny objective evidence. Wirtual is another huge name in TM and they have been good friends for a long time so i dont think he would make these accusations without being sure.

TG really needs more of these types of people who figured this out and wrote the analysis. people who just know how a game works and holds up the integrity of leaderboards

I like that the youtube video creator used Mass Effect music.

I laughed and laughed at this.

Also I'm all about the patch TM developed to make the leaderboard competition more legitimate. That's a great thing.

The Turbo records are part of it as are many of his records on TM2, he should just come out and admit it like the others have - interesting fact don't think he has streamed since this news broke

Nordavind has since dropped him so I would expect a confession in the coming days. Thats the only way forward for him now, let's hope he doesn't take the BM route

    No word from Nadeo yet

I'm assuming by "BM" you mean bowel movement route? Or the Billy Mitchell route? Really no difference, but technically there is a slight difference.
