They should never have removed his non-mame scores.

i know its popular to hate billy but guinness really defame him. when they said that he was found guilty of mame on pacman, that was pretty egregiously sloppy work on their part. I think billy actually could've won a suit against guinness since they did so blatantly lie about him.

It was a no brainer lawsuit that would have been easily won by Billy, but Guinness worked with him, and so he dropped it. It’s amazing what happens when you actually talk to people about certain issues, instead of the behind the back passive aggressive approach people here and at DKF use.

The dispute against Billy was in no way behind the scenes. Billy had every opportunity to comment. I stuck up for him, told people to cut out the personal attacks, etc.

But good old Joel West just could not stop antagonizing people. Joel was thrown under the bus pretty fast too, after he was dead. "Joel didn't represent me, no idea what he was saying". Pure 100% booolsheet

Is a sloppy mistake the same as a "lie" ?

    No it's not!

Thanks for posting that, Robbie and sharing the page. I couldn't agree more that Guinness is the ideal home for him.

Just a quick correction: Billy actually said that he *wouldn't* have easily won his lawsuit.

"We had no chance to beat [Guinness] in court, because we could not prove it acted with actual malice... that it knew its statements were false or they had a reckless disregard for truth or falsity," he said."

Sounds like there's a whole lot more to the whole Guinness story, maybe Billy will share it with you one day, and then you can share it here on your wall, such as the NDA:

"Mitchell told Ars he has known about the results of Guinness' investigation since December but that today's announcement was delayed because "we had to wrap up the legal agreement." Mitchell wouldn't comment any further on that, saying he was bound by a confidentiality agreement."

    1. Billy's a liar so i'm not sure i'd want to take his explanation as fact
    2. Though i'm not a lawyer, and further this is "conjecture" (good point on malice for a public figure though, i forgot about that third requirement, when for everyone else the only 2 are false and harmful), i beleive billy is heavily motivated to say he would've lost. After guinness lied about him in such a sloppy way, IF (since fair enough this point isnt a given) billy could've won, then guiness wouldve been motivatd to do what it takes to not go to court. if they needed to give him back his dk score to prevent him from suing over his pacman score, i dont think its impossible to imagine they would. Of course, if they admitted this was the reason it would defeat the point, and certainly billy would be motivated to say the reason was simply that he proved his case rather than they were desperate to settle and make him happy after the screwed up.

Im guessing the latest edition of Guinness was just published...
Did they not recognize your DK achievement Robbie? I kinda figured they would. Its a real shame if they didnt, in my mind its pretty much the most coveted record in all of competitive gaming.

I doubt that they would, but it’s not a big deal to me. Ive had plenty of recognition over the years.

I said back then: "Billy must have some dirt on Guinness".
    That must be it.
A mistake is not a lie. Unless you're a spoiled brat with an agenda, of course.

This re-instatement probably has nothing to do with Walter Day's current affiliation directly with Guinness. Nah, it has to be a coincidence.

haha you got me. and it would go the point of maliciousness. they're inept but not malicious. pretty bad though considering how they present themselves as an authority.

i still feel this is more than a mistake though. we almost need a new word between mistake and lie. if any one casually said what guiness said, fine, mistake. but this was something they put in print for something they considered official. to just claim billy used mame for pacman, to put such little effort before printing for an entity of their nature, i do think "mistake" is an understatment but yes, "lie" was probably too strong.

theres a different standard between people casually talking to friends and getting something wrong versus a world record book not bothering to get their facts straight and essentially just guessing.

Yup. All a coincidence. Like Epstein’s death.

Epstein is alive. Billionaires pay their way out of everything. Everyone has a price. Death is an escape plan for the naughty rich. Especially when they have elite and royals in their diary. You don't think he has or can rent another island from other sick billionaires? Cocktails on the beach...

We all know that Guinness page has some kind of stains on it, now...

An error only becomes a mistake when you refuse to fix it.
