Can someone please launch a score challenge for me...I do not have sufficient "cred" points with which to do so.

The score is my own...MAME "Puckman" of I think 398,440. I finally obtained the INP back to watch my old (and semi-successful) patterns and to share them with David Race but as I watched the playback tonight quickly realized I was playing at 5+1 settings instead of 3+1.

My final score legitimately ended around 310K but the entire performance to be fair needs to be negated. David Race can confirm the incorrect settings if he sees this.

Thanks so much.

Robert

    On the settings, it have to be 5+1. One is allowed to have 3+1, lower settings.

    As you will notice the track exist if this is what you need:

    I recall I did had an forum online discussion with David Race / Donald Hayes where both mentioned that the romsets are the same puckman and pacman(midway) and in the past, previous submissions played using puckman was submitted under pacman (midway). Example Peter Heunis (gogo). The PCB are also identical and if one submit a game played on puckman PCB to pacman (midway) PCB some experts here will accept those submissions.

    It is one thing to mention on a forum, it is another to do it when such an situation arises.

    So it is safer to sumbit :

    pacman (midway) ROM - MAME at:

    puckman (Japanese Set 1) ROM - MAME at:

    https://www.twingalaxies.com/game/pac-man/mame/high-score-challenge/

    In the rules for this one:

    https://www.twingalaxies.com/game/pac-man/mame/high-score-challenge/

    Dip Switches:
    Rack Test- Off
    Service Mode- Off
    Coinage- Player Choice, Freeplay acceptable
    Lives- Player Choice, up to 5
    Bonus Life- 10000
    Difficulty- Normal
    Speed- Normal
    Romsets:PuckMan is parent rom in MAME.The Puckman Japan sets are acceptable, the PacMan Midways sets are acceptable...any version which retains the same mazes and gameplay as traditional PacMan...Hacks not acceptable for this track.

    Why the score need to be negated, if he did play 5+1 and not 3+1 which is fine because the rules states:

    Lives: 5
    Bonus Life: 10000

    => 5 + 1

    RTM REPLY - Hi Francois...the score is entered under "Pac-Man" in the MAME category. I just checked, it's there. If you need to see the INP file I can send to you...PM me your E-MAIL address and I can share this evening.

    RTM REPLY - for sake of consistency "Pac-Man" and "Puckman" both should have the same rules...rules which I think are ********, but this is what Walter set in place back in 1999...

    5+1 allowed ONLY if you are playing for a kill screen (and get there)

    3+1 allowed if you are not

    Dumbest exception rule ever, but it is what it is.

    Ok, I see your question but I disagree to differentiate between 3+1 (no killscreen), 3+1 (killscreen), 5+1 (no killscreen), 5+1 (killscreen). Unless you want the scoreboard to be split in four each one with its own track.

    Quite a lot of scores on puckman and pacman were loaded with 3+1 scores. So how do you know which ones were played with 3+1 and which ones 5+1?

    Rather then keep 5+1 as the default settings for both normal no maxed out play and perfect score.

    The track name do not state "pac-man perfect" and "perfect score

    The rules under MAME for pacman and puckman are more or less the same. None of the two state only to use 5 men if a perfect pacman score is/was attempted?

    In Arcade pacman the rules also states 5+1 is TGTS! So your 5+1 is fine.

    https://www.twingalaxies.com/game/pac-man/arcade/

    Dip Switch Bank:

    1 = OFF

    2 = ON

    3-4 = OFF

    5-6 = ON

    7-8 = OFF

    Note: The above Dip Switches, when properly designated, will give the following Twin Galaxies Tournament Settings, used for this title;

    5 Pac-Men
    Bonus Pac-Man @ 10,000 Points

    I have to defer to the gaming community. Truth be told I have always been quite vocal about my utter disdain for TG adopting the 5+1 rule because of the ego of three gamers 20 years ago...and when you think about it likely mostly from just one gamer pressuring the idea into Walter's head.

    The anecdote as I remember it was as follows..."they" (at the time Billy, Chris Ayra and Rick Fothergill although INITIALLY it might have been Neil Chapman instead of Rick) felt like if one of them got a 3,333,180 then someone else at some point down the line could get higher regardless of TG rules to the contrary...so to end the possibility of their score being "trumped" in this finite point title they pushed Walter to adopt 5+1 settings.

    In any event, that was the exception rule that I railed against in the forum many a time over the years, but it was, whether I liked it or not, the ruling in-place. Thus my request for my score to be yanked.

    Robert
