So I have this problem. I go on MAME action replays and my jaw drops at seeing the massive (and I mean MASSIVE) scores that are posted there. I'm trying to break the King of Dragons world record and I came just shy of a few hundred points. I got to another 1CC of it and I was over 60K short (not sure what happened there). At any rate, I went on MAME action replay and I saw someone with 14 MILLION points. The cherry on top was that he was using the Elf character to do it, which is my preferred character as well. (current record is little over 2.5 million)

Only problem is I cannot get wolfmame 0.106 to work, and I cannot get any INP file that I didn't make myself to playback properly. I even tried with other versions of wolfmame and I cannot do anything with them. I feel like I am missing something very simple...

Tell us the steps of what you are doing, you give no clues.
Do you have an INP folder, for example?
Can you play games on 106?

No... that's the weird thing. I have no idea what's happening with this thing. No game runs, when I run wolfmame 0.106 for the first time it creates an ini folder. It has a 'folders' folder but it is completely empty. I created a roms folders inside it (and in the main folder) and put in the .zip file and the .inp file and the .wlf file in all of them just in case, and I am not able to run anything...

I am using wolfmameplus 0.106. That was the only one I could find.

Come to think of it, I don't think I have any roms that are compatible with mame 0.106...

If you can't play a game, you can't watch the INP, either.
Get a fresh copy of 106 from MARP and start again. Get the game working first.

Yeah just to eliminate some basic things:

    1. You need the romset for whatever game INP you're trying to play back, as well as the INP itself of course. The romset and the INP do not need to be in the same folder or anything. If the game is a clone or variation you'll need the parent romset too (for example if you run 1942a you'll need to have 1942 in your folder as well).

    2. If you're using a GUI (graphic user interface) instead of the command line, you'll need to "audit" the games on the list that you have the romsets for so v.106 knows that the romsets are good to go. This may not prevent you from playing back an INP but it's a good step to make sure you know which games have the proper romsets. If anything is missing any files, MAME will tell you by not confirming that game as playable. A very large number of romsets are compatible with v.106 so the likelihood that you're trying to play one that's not is low.

    3. WolfMAME v.106 by design eliminated the NVRAM problem so you don't have to worry about any of that when recording or playing back an INP. Later versions you have to make sure you disable the directory in the mame.ini file by replacing the NVRAM directory name with 'NUL'

    4. The INP has to be unzipped to run, and the romsets are to remain zipped.

    5. Some games require CHDs as well as ROMs but King of Dragons is not one of them. Here's a resource of DAT files, one of which shows which games have CHDs.

For this game in particular the romset has been renamed once starting with v.141:

0.106-0.140u1: kod - "The King of Dragons (World 910711)

    0.140u2- : kodr1 - The King of Dragons (World 910711)

The stuff you are saying is quite clear. Though the only executable file in the wolfmameplus-0106 file is a GUI and not a command line. I have never made any recording or anything with Wolfmame outside the command line.

    I'm confused. :(

OK, so you know what you are doing MAME wise.
GUI is the same, but you only have to double click a game to play it.
Download the INP you want to watch, put it in the INP folder and unzip it.
Then, top left of MAME, click "file" > playback input, navigate to the INP folder, and double click your INP.
    Hey presto! :)
