So my sister got a book on the making of Wolfenstein 3D, it's history, and all that jazz. Now my sister and I loved those old Apogee classics and she asked me if I can bag the TG record for Wolf3D (episode 1 at least). Now I went to the TG page on it and looked at the rules... and all it said was 'default' settings. So my question is: What is default? I mean I understand that no cheating is permitted, but does that mean I can freely choose the difficulty setting? I mean the hardest difficulty has the most enemies and as such more points opportunities (though enemies are only one part of scoring in this game). Also there is no breakdown of the episodes. There are 6 episodes in the game (though I had the full game only briefly as a kid. Most of the time it was just the Episode 1 shareware), can we choose which episode to go for?

Can someone clarify this for me? I want to have a go at it, I think this is a score I can bag very easily.

Yeah. I came within a mouse's fart away from breaking it on a single life. I got bored and stopped. I'll do it next time. I realize that using multiple lives is not against the rules. The game is very generous with those, actually.

I lost that life because I ran out of ammo and was shot trying to stab an enemy.

I think we should choose that those score are for episode 1 and create new tracks for all other tracks. I will create. sponsor some new episode tracks.

I don't know the game, but "Default" is most likely going to mean "Play the game the way it is set up when you turn it on".

In other words, basically don't change anything, difficulty, starting level, etc.

Again, there are exceptions, and I don't know the game you are speaking of, but that's my best guess for you.

The problem is the only thing that does affect gameplay is the difficulty level. The difficulty level selector starts on the 2nd to hardest level, the famous 'Bring em' on'. Nothing else does anything to effect the gameplay. You can choose the graphics and audio options, but those do not affect game play (except no audio. That does make the game harder since you cannot hear the enemies talking or their gun shots, allowing them to snipe you when you least expect it).
