Track Rules
This is specifically for the "hard" roms distributed by Nintendo for operators who wanted to make the game more difficult and decrease game times.
This required changing two of the roms on the PCB, which may not be distinguishable from images of the board itself.
The best way to determine if the hard romset is used is the primary difference in the game:
Fireballs/firefoxes are at maximum difficulty and speed on levels 1-4, which should be immediately obvious on the first "rivet screen" (the second screen in the game, also known as level 1-2) when compared to the standard Donkey Kong roms.
In MAME, this romset is called dkonghrd for anyone who wishes to use it as a reference.
This difference is even more obvious on the first two "pie factory" or "conveyor" screens, which are levels 3-2 and 4-2.
On the standard roms for 3-2, only 3 firefoxes will appear, while the hard romset will very quickly spawn 5 firefoxes.
Likewise, level 4-2 would only have 4 firefoxes on the standard roms instead of the quickly spawning 5 on the hard roms.
Dip-Switch Bank:
1-7 = OFF
8 = ON/OFF [Upright/Cocktail]
Note: The above Dip Switches, are not only the FACTORY DEFAULT settings, but are also the correct Twin Galaxies Tournament Settings for this title and will provide the following settings:
Number of Jumpman: 3
Score Level for Extra Jumpman: 7,000 Points
Any and all recorded Donkey Kong arcade scores must adhere to the procedure outlined in the RECORDING FAQ (see Donkey Kong Arcade Recording Rules).
These guidelines must be followed precisely, else your score may be disqualified.
