Leprechaun - Increased Bounty Value !!

OK, I think it's pretty safe to say that I am now officially pissed off.

I started playing Leprechaun. I made a mistake early being aggressive and had 198,000 on my first life. I had a slip on the keys due to sweating fingers and lost my second life at 280,000. I then fell into a ridiculous leeching trance and zipped off the entire bounty on my third life. Not caring about the rest, I let my remaining life go while I took a more than much needed bathroom break. The game lasted five hours and fifteen minutes and left me with an agonizing pain in my guts from \"holding it\" for the last two hours of this run. Having beaten the entire bounty score on my third life, the final score was around 1,804,000.

Conveniently, MAME DIDN'T RECORD ANY OF IT!!!

Is there some threshhold of memory or time that would cause it to just quit? (My estimate was that the file would have been 40-45MB.)

Nope.. not that I'm aware of... mind you that'd be better asked of the MameDevs. I think you'd want to probably test inp creation first ^^;; JIC... I will fire a letter to the Mame forums and query though.

    That sucks royale..... :(

If you are running WinME or below, there is a 2GB Limit per file. If you exceed this, your file will go away unless the app handles it.

I think this applies to a FAT partition (FAT32) regardless of OS in use.
Lots of 1sts to be surpassed: what are you waiting for? Play the game, submit the score...

I had tested to see if it recorded and it worked just fine. The 622K game I mentioned was recorded, (I had intended to score the bounty with that game but my heart wasn't in it after I lost my first life,) and it was a little over two hours and comprised 16.3MB. My guess is that the file for the 1,804,000 would have been around 42MB, which is FAR below 2GB. What a pain!

Now that my bladder has recovered I guess I will just have to do it again. (Has anyone else come close yet?)

How much ram do you have? Someone on the Mame forums mentioned you simply may have run out of memory when making your recording.

I'm not sitting in front of my computer right this second, so I can't be sure, but I think I have 64MB of RAM.

    O.O!!!!!!!

I think that definitely could have an effect somewhere down the line with this... you SERIOUSLY need a ram upgrade big time. I'm not 100% sure, but it sounds like this could be the reason... but then I don't know how nuts Mame gets with memory when recording.

    I have an interesting development.

My last run was obviously a complete fiasco. I surpassed 1,500,000 a little past the five hour mark. It did not record however. Game length may have had something to do with that. At the time, I leeched boards while averaging 4265 points per minute. I was fidgeting around this evening and found a different technique to utilize which allows me to score at a rate of about 7635 per minute. I believe I can get the game down to a hair less than three hours now. (There may even be a better strategy which might go as high as 10,000 points per minute, although it looks VERY risky. I'll have to check it out. If it one works, I can knock another 45 minutes off.)

I'd have to look around on Marp, but I'm quite sure there are quite a few games of WELL over 5 hours... heck... NIBBLER MUST HAVE BEEN over 5 hours long to achieve the 2 billion points or so listed... [now that I'm thinking of it]

I do have a game in mind to marathon that will take about 5 hours to do... so if this happens then.... then I will completely know your pain... but I am remaining VERY optimistic.

[Wonders how long Neil Chapman's Perfect Pacman score took on Mame]
