It's a Wrap - Now to Triple Check the Results

  1. It's a Wrap - Now to Triple Check the Results

    07-31-2005, 08:24 PM
    Hello fellow gamers:

There was a brief flurry of scores at the end as you know, and three new ones as well.

Dave Nelson submitted a new tournament record on \"Rock'n'Rope\" of 202,500 as well as a 170,400 on \"Xybots\".

Greg Erway improved his \"Top Secret\" to 47,024.

Ryan Gavigan improved his \"Crazy Kong\" to 55,000.

KEY was the fact that when it was all said and done, gamer George Strain opted not to qualify as was his prerogartive to do so. At the very least he drove Dave and many others to a new personal best and showed us that even at the most insanely difficult settings, TP is still do-able.

And to top it all of, both Dave and Martin managed to squeak in one last game of \"Phozon\" for the monthly MAME challenge, just for fun !!

Tentatively, here are the rankings. As I've said before, all scores will be checked and re-checked with the tournament referees, including submission E-MAIL date stamp on the origin INP file.

Also, be advised that due to the lateness of the hour, I will be unable to watch the most recent submissions until tomorrow evening, except for the \"Top Secret\" by Greg and the \"Phozon\" submissions. So these rankings are, again, tentative.

Congrats to Dave for a great Deca and for making sure I didn't get too comfortable. Although I got lazy at the end (played time pilot 1 hour) I always knew in the back of my mind that you could come out of nowhere with some big scores. Great job to Tommi as well who could surely murder my scramble score if he had the time.

As usual thanks to all the inp verifiers for their time and prompt responses.

And of course to Robert for continuing the Deca tradition despite his hectic schedule.

Congrats Martin!! Also for setting the highest overall % score ever I think!
  4. Only One Higher, I Think

    Hi QRS1:

To my bext recollection, Todd Rogers in the only TG \"time-based Deca\" ever held, for thew Atari 2600 of course, was way over the 900% range.

    Rogers, Todd - 959.92%
    Ewing, Jonathan - 880.74%
    Mruczek, Robert - 876.29%
    Gavigan, Ryan - 839.61%
    Yancey, David - 825.50%
    Drake, John - 815.99%
    Knox, Stephen - 719.96%
    Corcoran, Ron - 611.28% (DNQ)

Considering some of the titles involved, it was virtually a guarantee that the times would be tight. What we learned from the time deca experiment is that such deca do have a place within TG, but the choices must be selected VERY carefully. Mixing on whole-second titles with fractional-second titles can distort the outcome, as can (especially) mixing in titles with a major disparity potential between top tier and lower ter scores. In other words, you could be at 99% on 9 of 10 deca titles, but because the last one was \"Superman\" or \"Breakout\" for the 2600, all your hard work can be shot because of one title.

Anyway, I detract. The only higher finishing percentage was on a non-MAME event, so this is truly special indeed.

From what I see, Dave sent me his final INPs, and unless Tommi launched a comeback and sent to my fellow tournament referees, I think Martin has a lock on 1st.

As I stated before, I need to re-confirm all final results with my fellow tourney referees, and the last few INPs will be watched tomorrow. Keep in mind that some referees, like Robert Macauley who is in Australia, may not have been awake when their last submissions were received in their E-MAIL inbox.

Well... 13th Place out of 15 Qualifiers.. blah... not that I played much. Yet another year where I just kept focusing on TG Work and other projects. Still mad about Xybots... I got an alltime high and was finally getting into my groove... far too late :(

Congratulations Martin, on your extreme butt kicking... not that I'm terribly surprised after seeing you at FunSpot ;) I'm shocked Mr. Nelson didn't start running away with it either!
