I was trying a points run today and the game froze, but the game offers an automatic save feature where the points remain the same as when you last saved, thus making me wonder if a reset due to freezing is okay. Another technicality being that Metal Sonic's two forms do not give ANY points at the very end of the game

As for the other, that would be something that would have to be escalated, because that would require an exemption for that game.

however it is my understanding, that the saves are on the beginning/check point system, not a save state. hence that means it would be to your advantage to crash the game as often as possible to repeat parts of levels for more points, so I'd say no go.

Thank you for the logic point out Zeo, my idea for the Metal Sonic part that I forgot to mention was since the rules are very brief, say something like, "you can stop recording at the final boss battle since Metal Sonic does not offer points," so the players (though its not exactly the most common game) can know that they don't have to show a finale that gives no benefit whatsoever (and saving room on a VHS/DVD etc to record other games as a result)
