MGLXXXII - Game 1 ~ Space Invaders Part II (closes 18-Jun)

    Unfortunately before I spent several hours figuring out how to create an INP file but future scores will be recorded.
    Also I had a look at the AA thread, I have never heard it called the "shotgun" method before, only as "wall of death" or "death row" which sound way cooler.
    Interesting fact, Taito was well aware of the technique when making part2 so implemented a few features designed to inhibit its usage a little bit. Starting from screen 3 the UFOs will drop additional invaders to fill any gaps on the top row, and from screen 4 the formation of invaders changes with "splitters" that divide into two when shot.

    I have never heard of it being called shotgun either, but I guess you can make up your own name for that technique.

    I think it was important that Taito do not stop this technique in their code otherwise the game would be impossible to score highly. I like the changes they made in this version that you listed, but I think this version is harder than the original Space Invaders. This normally happens for sequels after the original game has been out for some time and the marketing guys want to counter techniques that increase gamer time play. Pac-man patterns against no patterns for Ms Pac-man the sequel is one.

    Do the splitters make it very difficult to use the death row technique? What's your take on how you need to play this game differently to the original Space Invaders, if any?

    Did you notice any difference in the scoreboard since the previous one?

    Well there isn't any ... the invaders have completely stopped the gamer's progress in scoring and the invaders are winning ...



    There is a good reason this game is called Part II ... payback!
