John Wilson achieved the score during the 1987 Video Game Masters Tournament. These scores were due to appear in the 1988 Guinness Book of World Record, but GWR unilaterally decided to drop coverage of video games and thus the scores from this tournament were unpublished. Mark Alpiger compiled and retained the scores from that year's tournament and published them at CAGDC

There was also a newspaper write-up about John's score

"At his game he's best in world," (by Don Jensen) Sunday News (Kenosha, Wisconsin), 8 Nov 1987
