    Score Track
    https://www.twingalaxies.com/scores.php?scores=42898
    Rules
TGTS Settings [3 Lives to Start, 5 Lives Maximum]
Special Rules: Your scoring attempts ends when either you die for a 5th time, or you manage to Defeat Bowser and Save the Princess at the end of 8-4, thus beating the game. The Turtle Stair Hop trick is banned and use of it will result in IMMEDIATE disqualification of your score, accidental or not. [This also would include the use of a single enemy to get increasingly larger amounts of points by repeatedly jumping on it, including Pipe or Block ricocheting. In this instance you may jump on it, send it flying and jump on it once more and ONLY once more and then you may send it flying, leave it be or destroy it. Any further attempts on the single enemy in question will disqualify your scoring attempt.] Use of the Wall-Jump tactic is NOT allowed! You MUST access the Underwater area of 8-4 by using the pipe across the lava pit. Doubling back and using the pipe before the pit to do so will equal Disqualification. Use of ANY Pipe to go somewhere different then the programmers intended is BANNED! Jumping through a solid object to access an area faster then the programmers intended is NOT allowed! [This falls under a variation of the Wall-Jumping trick] Warping IS permitted!

[The Turtle Stair Hop trick is where a Koopa Troopa comes down a set of stairs and you leap onto it at the correct time so that when you hit it, the shell hits the stairs and as it comes back to you, you manage to fall on to the shell again, causing it to bounce back... and so on. When implemented, this allows you to leech points and gain insane amounts of extra lives.]
[Wall-Jumping is defined as jumping against a wall [or pipe] in such a manner that a pixel or two of Mario is stuck in the wall [or Pipe] and is able to use that to jump again, far higher then can be done normally. Further definition; Mario cannot be made to jump off of a surface that is 90 degrees perpindicular to the ground. Please note this can be further used to also go through solid objects not normally passable as is disallowed.]
[The Alternative Pipe usage refers to, for example, going through a lone brick while crouched to go through the wall and access World -1, whereas the pipes would normally be Warp Pipes to Worlds 2-4 Respectively. The doubling back on World 8-4 to get to the underwater area is another example]

[Please note that you may also submit your record via Super Mario Bros./Duck Hunt and/or via the Super Mario Bros./Tetris/Nintendo World Cup Combo Cartridges]

    Submission Message
I realise the limit is 5 lives but I wanted to kill a few birds with one stone on this.
Firstly, apologies for the somewhat blurry RF output on the secondary display monitor (which the camera is pointed at), but it still gets the job done no matter how lo-fi i guess
So I aimed to score 1 million points with no leaching/farming, while also completing the game without dying. This run completes all of those aims, while still conforming to TG's ruleset. (I really wish there is a 1 life points category!)
All evidence at the end of the video this time (sorry sometimes it takes a few goes to get out of 1-1 and 1-2 with the amount of points needed)
I say its a UKV cart but in fact it's an AUD -- Australian release PAL Mario cartridge. Any other questions I'm more than happy to answer. Cheers

I am pretty sure you could add a 1 life track. Let me know when you do it and I will donate points to get it going.

I watched the entire video taking studious notes as getting to one million is on my milestone goal list. Lots of great game play! You seemed to get realllllly lucky on the final stair of 8-2. lol. I think you have a real shot at the overall record with 4 well timed deaths.

I think everything looks good to me.

The only thing that could even be slightly off is the 2 second pause at 5:02. It was at a non playing time, was extremely short and gave the gamer zero advantage as it was not at any point during the actual game play so it looks good to me. Looks like an accidental button push. I have just heard that people can be really hard core about pausing.

Voting yes unless someone tells me that the pause is catastrophic in some way, though I can't imagine it would be as the score would not change with or without it.

I've considered doing that. I've studied the Gardikis and Niskanen videos to some degree. I think if i did the 4 runs through 8-1 along with getting more of the tricks right (missed about 26k in 5000 and 8000 bulldozer attack misses in this run alone) -- i could break 1.3mil fairly easy. I think to get to 1.4mil is going to take hours of practice, I don't know if I'm prepared to do that when it has been so well already.

I wanted to do something slightly different and that is to get 1 million points "clean" without any farming, leeching or castle screen wraparounds, in one simple run to finish the game (all levels) without dying.

Congradulations John Riddell on getting million points and the PAL world record and welcome to Twin Galaxies

Stated by J Willard in his reply and seeing & hearing for myself the Pause happened during game play, it was brief almost 2 seconds before starting the world 1-2 ,in a speed run it would be rejected but this is for the highest score.
It is really is up to Twin Galaxies members, whether to accept or not because of the Pause at 5:01 on the video

How you know that a player paused is when you hear a distinct sound at 5:01 then to unpause you will hear the same sound at 5:04 on the video the game timer goes for 400 to 399
at 5:02 you can see the game timer at 400

    The game timer is at 400 seconds or 6 minutes 6 x 60 = 360 seconds or 6:40

I am holding off on voting yes, until I can get some input from Twin Galaxies members, especially those who are experts on Super Mario bros. NES game.

Game console system ,setup and disk can be seen at the end of the video
Game starts at :09 on the video
Final score is at 46:04 on the video

Thanks JJT, the 1 Life Track is already up.

Thanks for your concern about the pause, there is absolutely no benefit from pausing the game where I did. I specifically paused it there so I could check the camera and scratch my itchy nose lol
