Here are the scores of both leaderboards with name, score, bonus life, version of mame.

    Craig Anstett 951,000 10k 177
    Clay Karczewski 487,300 10k 151
    John McAllister 407,400 80k 182
    Jason Vasiloff 392,200 10k 227
    Barra 356,900 80k 199
    Jon Wilson 174,300 10k 149
    Max Haraske 170,600 10k 199
    Svatopluk Halada 69,100 10k 183
    Evan Mcgahey 20,500 10k 227

    Andreas Bernhardsen 106,100 ?? 106
    Koos Van Dyk 35,400 ?? 106
    Magnus Andersson 24,100 ?? 106

The issue isn't about the version of mame being used it is about the score at which you earn an extra man.
The top 7 scores I have no issue with as they all earned an extra life before they used up their 3 lives reaching 80k.
Both Hal and Evan however earned an extra life before reaching 80k and therefore the score is invalid compared to the way rules were for mame version 106.

Rules for 106 at the time said to set at 10k, meaning the dips that you see onscreen by using the tab key. When you set it to 10k the game will say on screen that you will earn an extra man at 80k. Mame dev had mislabeled the dips at that time and after 124 they changed them to the correct values.

A good argument is that the intention was to award an extra life at 10k and I agree with that 100%. Very rarely do you find a game that has the extra life awarded at the highest, most games default to the lowest.

After thinking and reviewing discussions and such about this and other games made by this manufacture I would make the suggestion that the rules are updated to reflect what the true intention of the rules were meant to be. That would be make it so that the extra life is awarded 10k and not the 80k. This only affects 2 scores in the database. Those scores aren't very competitive compared to todays scores.

Guess I'm saying leave it the way it was and update rules.

I am going to say this one more time, then I am done with this mess.

Leave the rules as they are. The DIP switch label error exists in outdated versions of MAME. There is no reason to allow said error to affect any more submissions than it has already.

Splitting a scoreboard on the basis of MAME version is one of the worst things which could possibly be done to a scoreboard. Put this scoreboard back the way it was, and leave it alone.

We are getting conflicted messaging here.

We will let everyone think on this and if we can not get clarity we will revert and deactivate this dispute.

I'd like the rules to say " bonus: user choice", and remove the discussion or make note of why rules were updated.

if i'm understanding the different mame versions are the underlying cause which creates the problem, but not exactly the problem.

The problem is the different settings resulting from the different versions. Seperating based on settings would make more sense than seperating based on mame version. This probably cant be automated as easily as seperating by version and would require a bunch of individual disputes, but i'm thinking that would make more sense. That, or redelfs suggestion or allowing both settings, either way though i think the solution involves focusing on settings, not version.
