Nintendo Switch SNES Tracks

Hello Everybody!

I'm sure you might have heard something (or you may not have) about Super Nintendo Games being re-released for the Switch! I would like to add tracks for them, but I need some assistance....

Admittedly I am not rule a guru like some of you. My biggest question would be:

Can I just mirror the rule sets from the original SNES games and input them for the Switch Platform?

Any help would be appreciated!

The following games were added:

Super Mario Kart
Kirby’s Dream Course
Super Mario World 2: Yoshi’s Island
F-Zero
The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past
Super Mario World
Star Fox
Stunt Race FX
Super Metroid
Kirby’s Dream Land 3
Pilotwings
Super Soccer
Super Tennis
Brawl Brothers
Demon’s Crest
Joe & Mac 2: Lost in the Tropics
Super E.D.F. Earth Defense Force
Super Puyo Puyo 2
Breath of Fire
Super Ghouls ’n Ghosts

As a start, I examined Super Ghouls n Ghosts on the SNES and the Wii Virtual Console (SNES release), and the rules between the two are the same for each track type. Hopefully someone can chime in with a SNES release on the Switch to compare.

They all look like they can be ported over to the Switch platform from what I can tell.

While we're at it, how about tracking the SNES Classic?

Thank you and it would be cool if we could do that as well.

That would be a platform addition only @admin staff can add. *nudge nudge*

Thanks in advance for this one-"playing along at Twin Galaxies" is how I justify my expenses, have been on the fence about a Switch for a while(...just to play Mario Kart), but if I can play SNES games I already like on it, sweet, loving Wife just might see how badly I "need" it.

    :)

Figures that now that we've got SNES games, they're only adding them sporadically instead of monthly.

The reason I offer to add tracks for these games is because we already have preexisting rule sets for them in the database and it would be easy to mirror them over to a new platform.

It may seem sporadic, but these games were just introduced to the Switch 3 days ago, and I wanted to try my best to be proactive about something I thought the community would appreciate.

Why even separate virtual console between wii, wiiu and switch?

Sounds like a question for @Jace Hall on the next SOTG

'Cause when you are REALLY good at a game, you notice subtle differences, even in things that are "the same", because they aren't "the same".

Yeah and that level of competition you stop messing around and get a SNES.

I agree, but if it's there, and tracked, it has to be kept separate and fair!

I would agree that original SNES should be separate. But all of these extra emu systems are really just diluting the system. Nes Classic vs Retro Pie vs EMU. All, at their core, the same and should be combined.

Definitely separate on original SNES, but I kinda see the point on the others.

I guess part of the "challenge" would be getting good enough to discern which virtual system gets you the best results on a a specific game-I still say there will be minor differences between different virtual consoles, but that could be part of the "fun" of it.

And I am definitely not saying that their wouldn't be. I guess I am more saying that once you get to the 3rd or 4th or god knows how many-th version of a game, it doesn't really matter the minor differences. Either play or the original or play "the best" version of it you can find.

I know for the switch nes Zelda my sister in law accidentally entered some remix mode and couldn’t figure out how to get into the original mode. If that was so easy to do on accident it’s worth seeing if the snes games have remix modes and if so you’d want to add rules specifying original mode. Or hey maybe specify remix mode. I hate being elitist but I kinda agree that for top competition just do the original but remix mode gives a very valid reason to play the rerelease

Do we separate XBLA on 360 and Xbone? Nintendo rerelease these SNES games over and over and over. I dunno I just don't see why you'd treat each one as a platform for high level competition. They are just a port for a bit of fun. Just lump them all as "official emu" or something?

EDIT: Not suggesting that original SNES get lumped with these.

I suggested that exact thing in the last SOTG ... one category for original NTSC h/w, one for PAL, and one for "All others", eliminating "EMU" replacing it with "Not original" or something like that. We'll see if it gains traction.
