Sorry to burst you bubbles, but that title was already taken.

In my mind there are only two contenders, John Mcallister and Donald Hayes. Without delving into research and note keeping to try and declare one the best I'd say its a toss up between those two.

Don Hayes gets my vote because he's also a very talented ping pong player. So he's not just a video gamer he's an IRL gamer too. Also I got to meet him and watch him compete in an arcade tourney and he is a very polite and respectful sportsman. His composure is inspiring.

There are many who are fantastic gamers that we've had the pleasure of seeing over the years, so I don't mean any snubs to anyone else that I've had the pleasure to meet and watch play.

Don and John are excellent players. Top of the list. I also would include The east coaster Steve who wears red hats. I am so embarassed, having a brain biden, I can't recall his full name.

    OK, first-

    Which Century?

We are in this Century, but most of the games I play are from the last one...

    :)

And are you meaning "in the now", or across the span of time?

I'm gonna say, prolly most of the people I'd put high on the list accomplished most of their stuff back then, I guess, pre 1999(no semantics, please)(Snow, did I use semantics right? Been dying to for months now...), so for instance, in the case of Billy, I'd think his "claim" would have to be on the last, past century anyway?

I mean, I know he can still do "x", but it's old hat, no offense, because he did the majority of it "back then" anyway?

This century is still pretty new-by the time it's over it's gonna be my Grandson Myles, mark my word(haha), but pretty hard to really come up with anyone to top RedElf in the now, I suppose I agree there, he plays games that scare the hell out of me, very well.

I'm mostly chiming in in defense of Billy on the tie thing. Sorta, I guess.

I don't actually think that was as much of a kiss ass move as it was a head in the ass move.

If it had been me, and the tie had had a Parrot on it, consequences be damned, I'd have said "Hey, a Parrot!", but it would have been about me, and the fact that I was interested.

I think the Guy is just into ties. Which is...well...

I guess something to be into?

    For some reason?

    :D

Oooh-Steve is fantastic too, his name prolly should be in the "in the now" conversation, good call Patrick!

(Good call, Data, good clarification, Patrick!)

There’s room for opinion on whether early electronic games with video display were video games and therefore debate not just on first video game but even the decade

Under any definition though there were no video games before the 1950s so for now it’s a moot point since we’re still in the first video game century

I felt that the title Mitchell imposed on himself pertained to the 20th century. Granted, the 21st century didn't start until 2001, but I think it's fair that as far as debating this title goes, keeping it between 1950-2000 would be a good measure for who really deserved that title.

    OK, so quite seriously-

When I've heard this tag applied, I'm assuming even CPotC, their intent is "the first century of video games"?

I have a habit, bad/good, I dunno, of taking things at face value, and on the surface, that is NOT what I'd have thought the distinction was.

I suppose to a degree that particular way of thinking, in my mind, is based on the major changes going on in games at the turn of the century-it was a few years before, I suppose, but that's when a lot of realism stepped in and stuff, so I guess I was delineating them on those terms.

I really DO think there should be some point of division there-sometimes separating things can be perceived as negative, but I like being somewhat good and proven on "last century" games, and now attempting to prove myself on(almost) "this century".

That's really how I saw it, too. Not being contentious, that's just how I processed it.

I see it more as gamers of that period instead of people playing such games.

Tim McVey. First person to make a billion points in any game , he has to be in the conversation. Or whoever has the world record in gravitar lol

My vote would be for John or Don these days...it's hard to decide. Every interaction I've had with them online (and the small handful in real life) both are class acts, both have some amazing marathons to their name and both have been the standard bearers for various games...

One that I think gets overlooked a lot because he doesn't submit outside of live events (I believe) is Jason Cram.

Steve Wagner is also up there.

    Dave Nelson as well.

    this rage isn’t healthy

I understand arguments get heated. I understand you misread my poco thread and thought you were rushing to his defense. But to be like this on even this thread I’m starting to think you just like fighting

I’m a fan of allowing arguing as it’s needed to uncover the truth so I also hate censorship but if you’re gonna have an opening line like this on every thread I’m gonna have to prevent you from commenting on my posts soon
