opinion question

So as much as I make fun of the donkey kong guys for spending too much of their lives on just one game, I do kinda like the idea of having an arcade cabinet that never gets old. I'm considering a centipede. Centipede seems normal difficulty but it just keeps getting harder, i'm growingly convinced centipede might be average skill at first, but is the hardest classic arcade game to master. Thinking of getting a cab.

The beauty is the downfall though. Not sure about dedicating years of my life to one game. Its fun, its classic, its cool. My question for others though, is how respected is the record? Does it come with enough bragging right to justify years of practice? cause unlike the other games that i've only needed anywhere from days to months to get the record, i have no doubt this one would take years

To be honest, I don't think you would have the patience / stamina to spend YEARS becoming a master of Centipede.

Seriously, Bill. Why do you think that it could keep you interested for "years"? Hmmmm, does Centipede have such dept?

Do you think that the number 3 score is true?.....

    Was that score coincidence?

centipede is common for players to go for exact scores -- especially when they were number 1 so might as well end there. centipede players due to the "goldilocks" zone already have to know how to carefully track and manijpluate their score. also don's previous score i beleive was 7,111,111 so somewhat exact and he tried to make his new score exact.
Scores like this on centipede arent suspicious in my opinion

I say buy the cabinet. Any high score on any of those early atari titles are a big deal.

I like variety way too much to ever want to dedicate all my time to one record. But I do think owning a Centipede would be a great addition to any arcade. It's a great game that you can't really play in MAME so the only way to get better is to play on an original cab. I've had the opportunity to watch a couple of masters on this game and I think it's one of the cooler games to watch masters play. It's jaw dropping. So if nothing else, if you get the game at your house, you can always impress your friends.

thats a good point on the entertainment and group play i missed. i only drink once a month, and the rest of the month not a drop, cause well, it interferes with video games. i bet centipede is one of the few games you dont have to do your best at though to be fun, i bet it would be a fun drunk game.
