€16 Madcatz Tournament Edition Stick (X360) restore part 2

I can't believe it's almost been a year since this project started!!

So I visited my dad, the welder, today. He was supposed to have a welder that he would borrow from a co-worker, but when I showed up. No welder...

Ok, I left the top plate + bracket at his place so he could weld it when he gets the welder sometime next week. This is the state of the stick right now.

I took off the artwork, which was incredible easy? I thought it was a big sticker but it turned out to be thick plastic that was just glued on around the edges with ****ty glue?

I think I'm still going forward with getting a giant sticker created. I looked around for a spare plate for the wire compartment but that just doesn't exist? A lot of people are missing that plate.

So the plan is updated as follows:
1. Buy new allen bolts for the top plate.
2. Create 300dpi artwork inspired by the Astro City control panel.
3. Get the artwork printet as a giant sticker and apply it to the plate.
4. Paint the top plate bezel white.
5. See if I can find a replacement hatch for the usb wire compartment.

There's stuff like this you can get instead of using a sticker: http://www.tek-innovations.com/artho...products&cat=1

You could just do without the mounting plate and mount a Seimitsu stick straight to the panel. The original Street Fighter 2 panels are literally that - an LS-32 mounted flush with the top panel. Suits me because I have freakishly large hands.

These sticks aren't too bad for what they are :)

I had one of those plexi-tops at one point but never used it. I thought it went on top of the original plate?

Isn't it too fragile if you use the plexi as the control panel?

My plan is to make some artwork and get it printed as a sticker. Found a place that can do it for around €15. I have those light green Sanwa OBSF-30 buttons, so I'm thinking of making some custom Astro City inspired artwork.

Yeah so you clean up the original panel and put the plexi over the top, that way you can print your own art and sandwich it in between. Good for the indecisive who want to change art all the time.

ah ok, like that. I will see if I can find the panel again here in EU. If it's cheaper I might do that.

I think Jasen Hicks occasionally does runs of the metal panels.

Just checked out the original post of this, that is insane. I wonder if it got left on the roof of a car and fell off, then getting run over.

Thing about the plexi, the purpose is to protect the artwork below it. So yes you can also use it to easily swap the artwork, but protection is the main key of it. Otherwise you deal with the constant rubbing and wear from play.

Digging the Astro City thing you're wanting to do. I've seen a few different sticks on Shoryuken forums that went Astro City ^_^ I remember seeing one for the TE you have, but I can't find it now. It had the player one color scheme though (Green* buttons), unlike the two below. And painted the bezel, so good call on that.

Man.. The red would look awful with the rest haha!

Found a site in EU (shadaloo.eu) that's sells plexi panels.

The 8 button one is out of stock, but the 6 buttons is available. I think I will go with 6 buttons anyway as when I play Street Fighter IV I don't use RB/LB (3xpunch/3xkick) anyway.

Shipping is €14.5, so it's a bit more than the €15 for the sticker but doing the plexi solution makes it possible to swap artwork if I want to do that and spare the artwork itself from wear and tear.

Found a picture of what I'm aiming for. (just with green buttons)

The other thing to remember is while it's cool to repair things, there are now a lot of these in the wild. If I look at local Gumtree and Facebook there are a lot of complete ones *****.
