Nintendo Switch Online

Hello everyone,

I recently purchased a 12-month subscription to the Nintendo Switch Online. Now I can play some Pac-Man 99 and Tetris 99 as well as play some other games online.

Anyways, as some of you already know, there is an entire catalogue of NES and SNES games that were rereleased on this service.

If these games were to be tracked, should a new console category be created for them? It could be "Nintendo Switch Online" similar to how "Nintendo Wii Virtual Console" is currently tracked separately from the "Nintendo Wii" category.

Or should they go in the existing Nintendo Switch console category?

As for the rules, a lot of the games are a simple copy and paste with some possible adjustments if necessary.

I'd like to know how the community feels about this.

It could certainly follow the same logical reason for the Nintendo Wii Virtual Console: a specific commercial platform which provides a confirmed level playing field.

I still blame myself for starting this split-console mess years ago, starting with the PS3 and PSP. It seemed necessary back then. For a while, I've felt that all of them should have just one category. For example, it's the Switch, so the only way one can play those games, is through the service. It's a "given" that it's online-There's no need to be so precise. Nowadays, when I add a PSN game, I add it right to PS4. The PS4-PSN category is dead to me...LOL. I'm not adding to something that should be done away with. It (and all of the other splits) are just not necessary. But, it's been brought up about combining them several times over the years and nothing has happened, and it probably won't ever happen.

That's my take on it. Do whatever you're comfortable with. Submitters will find the games regardless of what it's listed under.

I'm pretty sure someone beat you to beginning the mess with the Xbox Live platform. :) That stuff is a bigger mess now with Xbox One submissions to the Xbox Live platform. I concur the PSN stuff and Xbox Live stuff should get merged in with their parent platforms. I don't think there's been any PS4 to PS3-PSN (for example) but there's the obvious need to yank the Xbox One subs to the correct platform with no variations.

Wii is a careful split, by comparison: the Wii Virtual Console is a specific (series of) emulator(s) endorsed by Nintendo. We've already seen generic emulator submissions be attempted due to the confusion & it's a much easier TGSAP rejection defense if the Wii Virtual Console is retained as a separate platform.

I don't know that there's a compelling reason to retain WiiWare as a separate platform, however. That seems PSN-like.

I agree with Rage, I don't see the need to create a new platform for the same console just to separate the games bought or played online. I too add any new PS Vita games to the PS Vita platform, ignoring completely the unnecesary PS Vita PSN thing.

Add them to the switch as that is the system you are playing it on
