Open letter to Jace Hall The gg Podcast

Hey @Jace Hall ,

I chose to write this in the form of an open letter. I offer it in the spirit of camaraderie and support of our mutual affection for video games and the gaming community.

Yesterday I learned on Twitter that there’s a new podcast weekly series featuring Rick Fox, Todd Roy, and you called The gg podcast. It’s available on iTunes and podcastone.com (I encourage fellow TG members to check it out). At base, it’s a celebration of gaming, and I really enjoyed the personalities, exchanges, and insights – it has a great tenor, conversational flow, and I’m really stoked to see the launch of this podcast. It was a great first episode, and I’m excited to see that you’ll be taking part in a public conversation about the gaming ecosystem. I also want to extend my thanks to Rick for his plug of TG in the latter half of the podcast – after learning about Rick’s own gaming biography and his humble beginnings with and affection for the Atari 2600, it sounds like Rick is a fellow traveller and shares a mutual love for classic gaming and competition (Rick, if you read this, it would be great to have you submit scores on your favourite 2600 titles). It was also sobering to hear from Rick about the impact of racism in his professional and personal endeavours at Echo Fox and his determination to see it through.

I’ll confess that going into the podcast, I’ve been feeling a bit insecure about TG and its future in the gaming space. Members are leaving, there's a negative vibe, which in many cases is the result of fading hope about "what comes next." From the relaunch of TG, you leveraged your video game roots and developer background to inject excitement and provide leadership, spreading interest and passion for score chasing and a belief that for whatever its shortcomings, TG has and always will promote, recognize, and celebrate gaming achievements – while also ensuring that this history of gaming achievements is reliable and accurate. But over the last 12-16 months, the community has noticed your active involvement has become less regular to the point where it’s basically absent from public view. I’m not sure what your future plans are for TG, but I hope that the podcast might signal a more pronounced public engagement and promotion of TG going forward.

Cheers,

Jason

for starters the podcast should be promoted on Twin Galaxies. they should have a podcast section perhaps or a podcast account that we can all follow. I mean we got the wall thing we don't have forms of course but they could at least make an announcement every time there is a podcast please tune-in folks please listen in folks. I hope it isn't just yet another wasted opportunity to make Twin Galaxies great again.

After listening to the podcast, I should add that the intended audience is a broad constituency - "hard core gamers" are not the sole focus, although the content will appeal to them of course. In that vein, I think it's fair to say that the podcast isn't being positioned to promote TG - Jace was introduced as former CEO of Monolith and TG wasn't mentioned until the last quarter of the podcast in reference to an anecdote featuring Franny. It would have been cool to hear more from Jace about TG (the history of the acquisition, the view TG affords him of the industry), but I reminded myself "be patient - it's only the first podcast."

Yes I’ve been just working behind the scenes dealing with all the various challenges which tends to keep me out of the spotlight.

I hope to return to a more visible practice soon. 🙏❤️🙏

miss you Jace. I think its pretty well established you're completely capable of making anything succeed if you want it too. I just hope the "want" part is there for you.

Oz was one of the greatest shows ever, and the Jackson Vahue storyline was one of it's best!

    Opportunistic public tail-kissing?

    Mebbe.

    ;P

Pretty neat to hear that he(Rick Fox)is a gamer and involved with TG in some fashion.
