TG updates

@Jace Hall , in your last SOTG's you mentioned that TG was needing to update their Rules and Policies section to match what is taking place at TG and in the TGSAP system. Any update on when that may be happening so we know what is/isn't allowed for submission and adjudication purposes?

I "dispute" your comment and may seek legal action.

This will be the new language as I believe it covers what was discussed..

"Hardware Modification: Console games must be run on official hardware. Modifications needed to support the use of external storage devices such as the PlayStation 2 HDD, PS2 HD Loader, Everdrive or other mechanisms are considered generally acceptable unless otherwise prohibited by track specific rules, or the discovery and documentation of definitive unfair advantage of use for that game track during an adjudicative score verification process. This section does not apply to PC games, as they have no stock hardware."

You may want to make a post using your account @Jace Hall . You have more followers who I am sure would like to weigh in or possibly ask questions about this, or add more perhaps. Thank you for the update. This will definitely help solve all the confusion. If I may add that adjusting the "original hardware" wording as well in the Help and Tutorials section to reflect this new update would also prevent contradiction of one rule vs another. Thanks again.

At least make a 200 page packet with a 20 year old picture of yourself posing with women who probably don't remember you.

@Jace Hall Any chance we can get some rules on arcade for de-suicide modifications and multi kits?

@Jace Hall - can hardware modifications to allow use on modern displays (RGB/hdmi/AV mods) be clarified in this, as well?

Please suggest wording for consideration on the above issue.

Never considered video mods. There are some pretty cool ones. I have watched quite a few videos on them for the N64 and converting a Gameboy Advance screen into the back lit GBSP screen. That would be a pretty awesome conversion. The original GBA felt great in your hands compared to the smaller SP IMO

There's definitely some complexity to this. There are simple A/V mods, like the one I'm going to do to the ColecoVision I have, that simply grabs signal from a few locations and outputs it to new connectors. But then you have others that I've seen that actually are pass-through sockets for chips on the board and could potentially impact the way things play.

So, a little more thought - how about a policy that A/V mods that do not potentially impact the internal logic of the console. Thus if it's something hooked up entirely to where the video signal is being generated and transferred, then it's acceptable. If it's connected to something deeper or sits inbetween areas of logic, then it requires that specific type of mod to be deemed allowed.

And this would be tracked on the Wiki. Each platform has a wiki page (which SHOULD be hooked up into the site for easy access), and that page will list various mods that are relevant if they're considered acceptable or not. Then submissions will just indicate any mods they use.

Not sure why you would need to mod an N64 when you already got adapters that will output to HDMI with no lag.

I think these older systems have been around long enough that people are finally creating technology to keep up with the current technology now. This specific adapter actually upscales the image a bit. I'll probably get one.

I've seen the side-by-side comparisons. The UltraHDMI mod looks quite superior to any of the external HDMI options.

Agreed. But the plug and play adapters don't alter anything in the system I guess is what I was getting at. The ultra mod replaces some original hardware doesn't it?

No, that mod doesn't replace anything. It has some ribbon connectors that connect up all over the place, and it's clearly not an easy mod to install, but it doesn't replace anything.
