Scores entered in PAL rather than NTSC

Need some help from some of you older TG member here. @Barthax , @Ninglendo , @timmell , @Marcade , @RTM @lexmark . I'm looking at the XBox - Tiger Woods PGA Tour 2003 scores. https://www.twingalaxies.com/game/tiger-woods-pga-tour-2003/xbox

Tom Duncan is the only player to compete on the game. I can't be sure which is where I need your guys input, but I believe Tom Duncan was an NTSC player. Most of these scores where entered in the PAL tracks. Not questioning his scores at all, just that they should be moved to the NTSC tracks. What do you guys think as I don't know him? I'm sure it could have happened somewhere but the guy seemed to always compete every track for a game he was playing.

I have no idea what he played on. BUT IMO, there should be no separation on this game for the database. It is a golf game. I don't think the frame rate makes a difference on a golf game. If there are some timed tracks then I would understand the need for the split.

The only argument against this whole thing is that he has a score entered both for PAL and NTSC in the tracks. And they are different scores. Maybe he did play them both and didn't finish the other I guess. I agree as well on the no separation, and the there is an in game timer for the speedzone tracks...not even sure if they specific TW game has the speedzone in it, I'm still building my character and unlocking things.

Tom actually did quite a bit of PAL, particularly on PS2-or at least, he has scores listed for PAL(as well as NTSC), on several games, Activision Anthology for one, I believe.

Those particular scores, I have no idea on, and I know I don't quite fit the "who" you are asking, sorry, only chiming in that I have seen him on PAL scoreboards, I'm certain.

I guess I was just puzzled that he only submitted to 4-5 NTSC tracks, did most of the PAL tracks, but didn't finish all the PAL tracks. Just seemed odd I guess and didn't know. Is there a way to change your XBox settings to make it play like PAL or NTSC? I have never done this as I've always played NTSC so I have no idea.

Much appreciated is your response. Was asking those guys specifically because I believe they had worked for TG at one point.

WHO ARE YOU CALLING "OLD" !!????? <Raises his cane up in the air in anger> ;)

Actually, "back in my day", Tom Duncan had a personal blog page. I do recall him mentioning that he DID have a PAL converter hook up (when warranted). Former referee, Troy Whelan and him usually verified each others scores, back and forth. Look closely for the details via searching at the forum archive pages. You MIGHT find the details of what you are looking for, maybe on Troys blog as well.

Can I prove he played in the proper regional settings? Of course not, as I was not a referee to witness his gameplay. We could only take his word, and the word of the referee verifying it. Tom submitted in bulk! Tons!!! Especially those golf games.

However, as my experience of him approving my 2600 scores, he was an excellent referee. Very efficient, and quick. (Sometimes, my subs would be approved in days- weeks. Sometimes, I would submit a typo, and he caught it immediately and fixed it , in which I appreciated) I also liked competing with him as well. Nice fella, but left TG in bad terms in the end of his tenure. No doubt, he was controversial at times. (Then again, who isnt?)

Some of you "OLD timers" will disagree with me, but I respected him.

Fair enough. I didn't want to post this in the score board errors thread up front. Just thought it was odd he didn't actually complete the set of tracks as he normally does. Thanks for the info. I guess it must be what it is then.

@Barthax and "UNMENTIONABLE" @RaGe were his former colleagues as referees. They would be able to provide more insight into the facts and opinions of Tom Duncan. I can only speak from my personal experience (as an outsider, and as a gamer, mailing my VHS tapes to him) It was 100% positive for me.

The Tee Jester mystery? That still remains unsolved to this day. Heh.

I called him up once. Is that your alter ego, Tom? He said no. Just a friend on his, who games in front of him, at his house in person. Another VERY ACTIVE gamer who played on both NTSC and PAL.

    (I believe him) Even though...

    TEE = golf term

    JESTER= "a joker"

NO DENTAL RECORDS found on Tee Jester to this day. Heh. !

Any time Tom Duncan is brought about, there is a lot of suspicion. I know this well because I questioned two of his scores wondering how it was possible and found my answers both times.

Still, when it comes to Tom.. you have to wonder how he made such amazing scores so often in such a small time frame. I mean literally over a hundred really good scores a month even with him being TG staff. Did this man not even have a job and just aced every game he touched? Is he a god among gamers? No one will ever really know.

One thing I will say in Tom's defence. He never once called me a bully or a hypocrite. In that aspect is truly is a god among men, unlike Barthalax.

Does this mean that I am an even greater God than Tom? I've never not beaten any of his scores on any game I've attempted:P

I had a little conversation with Tom about a year or so after I joined. I think it was on facebook? On here? I really don't remember where, but I do know he asked me to inform TG he wanted his scores removed. I'm assuming that has some history to do with the things a few of you have mentioned? I'm not trying to stir any pot or conspiracy theory, that's just he said to me. And I believe Jace said he would not just remove scores because people asked him too.

I can't tell if that is a double negative or just pore grammer.

Oh, it's both. Definitely both. I'l rephrase it then. Every score that Tom Duncan has submitted, I have always beaten it. Speaking of POOR grammar, haha.

Tom worked part time at a factory. The automobile industry, i believe? Dont quote me. I also recall him telling me, he had a lot of time off work.

Speaking of automobiles, he was a "machine" in submitting scores in itself!

    BULK!

Yes I had something to do with it. Cruis'n Exotica on N64 or Burnout Legends on PSP. I questioned them, without a single bit of "you cheated", just wondering how it was possible and I got the answer to how it was possible and was quiet right after.

There has been questions about his scores in the past including some ref verified scores of prototypes that only 5 copies exist and no ROMs available.

@starcrytas provides some links in that thread including one from CAGDC from a former TG staffer.

I know some people like @Fly and @MyOwnWorstEnemy had problems when sending tapes to him.

Note that last link was a thread @starcrytas started where he had an email exhange where Tom was saying he wanted TG to remove all of his records.

Im kinda on the fence with the guy. I know he did a lot of good getting scores through in a timely and effecient fashion, but on the other hand there has been a lot of questions brought up in the past. Along with testimonies of former staffers and gamers.

He didn't seem worried or angry about anything with his scores either. Whatever it was that him and TG had going on, he just wanted his name separated from it I guess.

all the evidence i've seen against tom is more sleazy, and different set of rules for refs than anyone else as opposed to outright cheating

able to view his competitors scores, when they couldnt view his scores. secrecy existed for ref scores, refs could protect their secrets from competitors, yet competitors had to share their secrets with competing refs. sleazy without doubt, but not against the rules, and not cheating per se as long as the score was really accomplished

creating tracks for games only he could play. this was in a time period where entire tracks like dodge 'em were wiped out and real scores deleted. other tracks were expliclty listed on the "do not track list" so quite the double standard the popular titles couldnt be tracked and other tracks outright removed, while tom was able to any track any want. extra double standard that it was tracks only he could compete on due to only he having the prototype and thereby easily/sleazily increaing his world record count. still not cheating though

look the dude has thousands of scores. if he was a cheater i'm sure he must have messed up at least once and left the evidence behind. everything i'm seeing though points to just typical double standard for sleazy refs as opposed to outright cheating. sorry guys, i dont think you're gonna find any proof of tom cheating.
