Site Upgrade!

We are very pleased to reveal our latest upgrade to the Twin Galaxies site!

You will notice that there have been some significant across-the-site changes made to the platform that help to improve the flow, utility and function of TG.

Please keep in mind that the full upgrade has not been totally completed and work is continuing as this is being written, however it has reached a point where we are comfortable turning on this initial first stage and working through the various bugs and optimizations.

Over the next few days you will see many adjustments being made to what is currently being presented.

The submission and voting areas have been significantly improved and we hope that the community finds the changes to be helpful. With that being said there is more to come in that area, as a Dashboard (similar to the one found in the Bounty section) is planned to be added to make it much easier to track/follow all your voting activity on the site.

There is also a major update in progress for the WALL FEED, so you should expect more improvements there as well!

The way we develop these improvements, is by doing it off site on a duplicate system, then we bring those changes over to the main site. The main site is always a little different than the test site, so once we bring stuff over to MAIN, we need to spend time doing optimizations and bug fixing. So we are doing that now with these upgraded sections.

Please report any bugs you find (related to this upgrade) to this thread so we can address them as quickly as possible!

We would like to take a moment to gratefully thank @admin staff and the entire engineering team for their incredibly hard work on this upgrade! This represents a tremendous amount of work over many months to accomplish. The Twin Galaxies platform is very complex underneath the hood as it performs many functions, and making these massive system-wide changes to the platform is no joke!

Hopefully the community appreciates their great efforts and enjoys the continuing improvements that the entire team works to bring to the total experience.

Obviously, nothing is perfect and there is much more to do, but please know that Twin Galaxies is appreciative of the community's passion and participation, and continues to work hard to do its part in making this place the most premium and special experience it can be for video game achievement recognition!

Onward! More exciting stuff soon! This is just the beginning!!

LOVE the new layout except some omissions on the voting page. You have to have a way to show what you voted on. Currently without searching by "voted on" there is no way to see on the submission page. That was very nice on the old layout with the green or red notice. I have no idea how hard it would be, but change the teal back ground of a submission to green if voted on and red if not yet voted? Or change the 'vote now" button to "voted" if a logged in member has already voted.

A Big thing I noticed is on a submission page, you used to be able to see what place they were going for, and a link to the page of the TG record. I actually clicked on that a lot to see how this submission stacked up to the real record if say they were going for 3rd.. etc.. That is a big thing that a submission should be linked to the record page and show what place the member is going for.

Other than that and the things already addressed, the new layout is great and the site actually seems faster to load! Keep up the good work!

The VOTE NOW button changes to GREEN and says VOTED on any submission you have voted on. Are you not currently seeing this? This was implemented and is currently on the test site. It may have not been migrated over yet. @admin staff ???

Yes, that is actually supposed to be there too. Its on the way! All these items should be fixed over the next 16 hours or so. There were so many changes under the hood that its taking time to get them all moved over and reintegrated with the main site.

Many many thanks! Lots of hard work. Very glad you like it!

The mini-profile pic should be centered, not top-aligned.

Also too, this thread has kinda pointed it out to me...

Used to be if you clicked on a notification about a thread it took you to that post. If someone liked or thanked something you said it took you directly to that post, same with if you clicked on someone replying.

Now it just brings you to the post and you have to scroll around to find what you're looking for.

Just want to say I'm only pointing this out as an area to potentially work on. I do understand how daunting and difficult it is to change a site and how it can react differently with every browser and platform.

Maybe tomorrow I'll check how the site works with my Dreamcast browser...

Let us fix all these bugs first and then we will take a close look at GRID display. Did you have thoughts on the color gradient post I made? ( https://www.twingalaxies.com/twin-galaxies/wall/11419/site-upgrade/page/1#comment88524 )

    Let me know!

I like what your trying to do here but like every significant change, there's going to be some bugs to squish and time needed to get comfortable with the changes.

One thing I noticed is the redundancy in the adjudication page. Within the adjudication boxes the white text has Track, Game, and Platform. This is the same information in the yellow text above that has the http link. However since the red Vote Now button also has the link, are both the white and yellow text really needed?

I love Dark mode everywhere, but I am ok with it not being default. The admins should go with default though so they find the little things that make us dark mode types have a difficult time. See the text above, hard to read.

By the way, I love the new look. I know how much effort gets put into these things. It will take a little while to get used to, but I am sure it will be embraced by all.

Hi JJT, welcome to Twin Galaxy.

You can still reply to the post and say "thank you".

Whatever this graphic is, I'm not seeing it.

I have thought about this. Perhaps not - but it does let you digest the information in different ways. If one had to go, which one should it be? The link text? or the below white text? There are some ideas about this but im curious as to ur thoughts.

Ya the red text in dark mode is a bug. It's on the list. You will notice that the text switches to white in light mode. Thats what it should be in dark mode too.

Don't understand what was fixed that wasn't fine before.

Seems like a bunch of useless foo-foo bullshit, wasted money by TG admin.

It kinda sucks ass that more than half the people out there agree, and don't quite have the balls to say so.

    LOL

C'mon dude. Change is good. The version you are longing for used to be the new one that was "useless foo-foo bullshit". And before that, and before that.
