TWIN GALAXIES
Greetings Community!
We wanted to provide some clarity around an issue as we have become aware that some individuals have suggested that console commands or command usage were not prohibited in the initial challenge rules.
That suggestion is not accurate—command usage was explicitly prohibited in the original challenge rules.
Players will note that right on the submission page, it is clearly stated that the "Twin Galaxies General Gameplay Global Rules apply unless overridden by the specific rules above."
If participants refer to the Twin Galaxies General Gameplay Global Rules (and they always should), it explicitly states:
"Unless otherwise specified in the game's leaderboard variation rule set, removing or altering any part of a game's software is forbidden. Examples include software mods, third-party interface devices (Game Genie, ProAction Replay, etc.), the crooked cartridge trick, or disk streaming. Editing config files and console commands for PC games beyond the scope of the in-game settings are only allowed for purely cosmetic changes that grant no gameplay advantages."
This rule has been in place since day one and is a long-established standard rule at TG.
The recent clarification update was an attempt to remind all participants to be fully aware of concerns normally covered by this existing guideline, especially in the context of this specific game. It became evident that a few adjudicators (definitely not all) were unintentionally overlooking this aspect, so the clarification was made to help draw attention to this aspect if needed and provide game-specific examples.
Additionally, the clarification tried to help encourage players to provide as much supporting information as possible to assist adjudicators make well-informed voting decisions.
In retrospect, greater emphasis on highlighting the importance of being aware of the TG General Gameplay Global Rules in the primary presentation text of new challenges that bring in newer audiences to TG clearly would have been more helpful to all participants in the process. TG takes full responsibility for not front facing that more and will do better next time for sure.
That said, the good news is that this was addressed well before even the halfway mark of this competition. Any potential misjudgments can and will be reviewed through the dispute system, which serves as a built-in safeguard within the TGSAP process to ensure accuracy and fairness.
TG remains committed to continuously improving the clarity and accessibility of its rules to create the best possible experience for all participants.
All competitors can rest assured that every submission is under continuous scrutiny by multiple reviewers, ensuring a thorough and fair evaluation process. By the end of the competition, the final results will reflect well-reviewed, publicly visible performances, reinforcing transparency and integrity in the rankings.
