The Sega Saturn is a 32-bit fifth-generation home video game console developed by Sega and released on November 22, 1994 in Japan, May 11, 1995 in North America, and July 8, 1995 in Europe. The successor to the successful Sega Genesis, the Saturn has a dual-CPU architecture and eight processors. Its games are in CD-ROM format, and its game library contains several arcade ports as well as original games.

Pseudo Saturn

Pseudo Saturn/Pseudo Saturn Kai is a custom firmware that can be used to flash the Saturn Action Replay 4m and Saturn SD cartridges, allowing the play of custom burned disc-based titles, eliminating the system's check to verify the copy protection. It also allows play of titles from other regions, though that functionality was already preset in the Action Replay.

Use of Pseudo Saturn is allowed for Twin Galaxies submissions, though the user must not start the title through the cheats menu. Starting directly from the Pseudo Saturn "Select Loader" screen will start without any cheats enabled.

Pseudo Saturn should be seen as the functional equivalent to flash cartridges such as an Everdrive.

Rhea/Phoebe

The Saturn also has Rhea and Phoebe, a pair of SD card-based disc drive emulators. They replace the optical drive in the system completely, allowing the user to play games off of an SD card. "Rhea" is name of the mod for early model 1 Saturns, and "Phoebe" is for later model 1 and model 2 Saturns - otherwise, functionality is the same between the two.

These are also acceptable for Twin Galaxies submissions, other than speedruns where the loading time differences would give an advantage.
