Dear Community:

Following the collective input and some deliberations within our community forum, we have implemented the first phase of modifications aimed at refining the criteria for Twin Galaxies (TG) World Record and Achievement recognition.

Implemented Change

- Clarification on Record Classification: Records on tracks with only a single entry will no longer contribute to a user’s “TG World Records” tally. These records will be classified under the “Other TG Records” category. A track must have at least two records for the leading record to be counted towards a user's “TG World Records” total. This adjustment has led to an updated recalibration of everyone’s “TG World Records” and “Other TG Records” statistics to align with this new guideline.

Pending Modification

- Introduction of an 'Achievement Only' Setting: We are in the process of introducing a novel setting across all tracks, termed “Achievement Only.” By default, this feature will be deactivated for every track. Its purpose is to designate certain tracks as solely for task completion, relegating all submissions for these tracks to the “Other TG Records” category, thereby excluding them from being recognized as a “TG World Record.” Tracks suited for this setting include those where only a singular score is attainable or those where achieving a set score or performance signifies task completion. Visibility of this setting will be ensured on the track display, though the prerogative to modify it will be reserved exclusively for administrators.

Objective of These Changes

These amendments are geared towards enhancing the Twin Galaxies community's capacity to discern and appreciate the subtle distinctions between "achievement" and "competition." While both facets are crucial, equally valuable, and often intersect, there are instances where they diverge. It is vital that our leaderboard system effectively communicates these distinctions, thereby fostering a richer acknowledgment and recognition of the diverse accomplishments within our community.

We recognize that formulating policies that universally satisfy all members of our community is an ambitious endeavor. Despite our best efforts, the initial execution of these policies may encounter challenges that require refinement. Nevertheless, Twin Galaxies is committed to this strategic path, believing it significantly enhances the community's experience. This approach is designed to benefit both individuals aiming for achievement and those engaged in competition, underscoring our dedication to serving the diverse aspirations within our community. Our goal is to foster an environment where every member feels their efforts and achievements are valued and recognized, ensuring Twin Galaxies continues to be a vibrant and inclusive platform for all gamers.

Thank you.

Although I understand the essence of value for certain scores, that is an emotional and subjective view.

Here he is agreeing that everything should be removed. Why TG can't just remove something at the request of the creator is beyond me. Surely that would be a simpler solution? He has even stated privately that he does not plan on returning this time. Instead we have a new calculation that is confusing to anybody not reading this thread, and was not exactly asked for by most.

So what would you propose to prevent things like this happening again with other users? Relying on community input and hope they have enough knowledge to catch it first? Maybe admin because they always make the best and most prompt decisions?

What happens when LAH17 signs up and does the same thing? Removing his tracks doesn't address other tracks with fixed scores. If people want to do achievement scores, good on them. They're just not World Records and shouldn't be counted as such.

LOL, ... and yet they are the most objectively true of the statement "World Record". So much material ... if I was a cartoonist. :D

Wooo, you guys need to hire kernzy for a decent conspiracy theory to begin that TG World Record deniers club! :D

Well, most of us here ARE emotional subjects, lol, so emotional subjectivity is to be expected.

Seems like this thread is gonna go on a while, tho we don't truly know the actual ramifications of this change, most is conjecture, noone really knows what scores Admin will choose to move, etc, etc.

That was simply backpedaling.

I had asked the same question as Don, about the potential scoring, hours before on a similar sub, and was given like, a one word response, basically, a "**** off". So he was fine with his score.

Then Don asked the same question a bit later, and LAH, knowing that Don had the patience to break him down, gave an explanation, and then agreed the scores should be removed.

He was just covering his ass.

Many of LH16 Twin Galaxies world records are Max outs on popular games and formats.

What is the problem when many retro video games have max outs there are no issues with them.

Many inaugural records were created and later TG members started competing on the track.

Why remove the new or old tracks that have 1 score or time, what would be the reason to do so surely because you do not like the video game or platform that would be BIASE?

Thank you and God bless you and your families and friends.

Really not attempting to speak for anyone except myself, BUT-

Many, many members have issues with said members behavior.

Basically, the person with the fourth most W/R's has about a hundred ESI.

I imagine that anyone looking at numbers, BECAUSE THEY ARE THERE, would be scratching their heads over that.

Feelings/emotions, blah, blah, that's fine.

To me, the science doesn't add up.

It makes the scoreboard seem twisted, to anyone analyzing it with common sense.

Leaderboards should be about numbers NOT words and emotions. Period.

Did his signon have a birthday? LAH16 right? :-P

Kidding aside. This seems like an AWFUL big change made to seemingly counteract one guys very quick climbing 'world record' count. We're talking about what 40+ years of records to ALL suddenly be re-defined because of LAH16? Sooooo let's change EVERYTHING to fix one errant submitter? I do agree something has to be done for this particular situation, I'm just not sure totally re-inventing the wheel is the best course of action here....

I don't find it to be bias but rather dealing with someone who is clearly acting in bad faith. It's the equivalent of someone who waves their hands an inch from your face while repeatedly saying "Not touching you! Not touching you! You can't do anything because I'm not touching you!" Everyone knows exactly what they are doing, and how it's complete BS and eventually someone just knocks that idiot out and everyone cheers as they get what they deserve.

I've untyped the fact that one member's scores being removed being the simple answer to all of this, and the system having faith in users to point this stuff out(we were on to him a few weeks after he joined...), and treating it case by case, but I'm friends with some of his friends, don't wanna hurt feelings, politically correct, blah, blah, but ya, this was definitely the "player", not the "game".

Just realized that needing another score to make a #1 score count as a TG world record means most PAL scores won't be TG world records.

... but don't worry, it's not like you worked hard at getting perfects on a mass of stuff, is it?! DENIED!!!

The popular phrase 'don't throw the baby out with the bath water' sounds spot on regarding this situation... :-P

But I suppose 'one bad apple spoils the bunch' also rings true here.... Hmmmmm

Has complacency ever worked in getting more members and newcomers to join this site? I'm sure you know the answer and while you're unhappy that PAL region doesn't have the competition you have to understand that change is a necessary part of growth. Sure, some decisions don't go down well and some go over really well but paths have to be taken in order to achieve the future I would hope the community as a whole would want. I mean, as it stands, I have a lot to lose with my huge amount of inaugural submissions simply because Monster Hunter (not the watered down GO version) games aren't popular here but maybe one day some folks will see my inaugurals and give it a go. I'm just saying that I get the initial sting the decision will make but I also understand that it's the best for the site as a whole and not just negatively affecting myself.

The amount of newcomers that stay should always outweigh the amount this community has chased off.

LOL, water off a ducks back. If I was pissed I wouldn't be posting inaugurals today. The decision has freed me of the "WR whore" and other stupidity that comes from short-sighted egotists... oh wait, that's right, I have some of those short-sighted egotists to thank. :P
