John McCurdy Sets New Career High Donkey Kong Score
By Nicholas Barth ·
Moving past Wes Copeland, John McCurdy now sits in second place for the top ten Donkey Kong scores of all time.

Improving upon your past accomplishments in a passion of yours is something that everyone enjoys, as it shows that your hard work and dedication has finally payed off. This was the case for Donkey Kong player John McCurdy who broke his previous record of 1,189,500 points with a new high score of 1,222,900. The announcement was made on the official Donkey Kong forums, and now McCurdy only sits behind Robbie Lakeman's score of 1,247,700 for 1st place. McCurdy's latest score has not yet been submitted to the Twin Galaxies database for official adjudication and recognition as of yet.
Breaking through the 1,200,000 point mark has put McCurdy into the upper echelon of Donkey Kong scores and will most likely have him working to surpass his newly established record in order to climb to the very top of the rankings. Robbie Lakeman's current top score of 1,247,700, which was accomplished on February 2nd, 2018 and verified by Twin Galaxies on March 23rd, 2018, is the mark that McCurdy now must pass for him to claim the King of Kong title.
He will no doubt be practicing and attempting his next major achievement in the world of high score chasing on his Twitch channel where viewers can find McCurdy streaming his playing sessions that consist of him perfecting his techniques and skills for the storied arcade game.
With major news sweeping the Donkey Kong community this past week, it is only fitting that one of its long time high scorers would accomplish a new personal best to add even more discussion topics to one of the largest retro gaming communities in the world.
As we wait on proper adjudication, we will follow the story as it progresses. In the meantime, Twin Galaxies offers an initial congratulations to John McCurdy on another exceptional performance.
