League of Legends Chinese Scene Gets Set For a Showdown of Giants
By Zac Cameron ·
Two of the biggest names in Chinese competitive League of Legends will do battle for the LPL Championship after an exciting weekend of matches.

With the semi-final matches now complete in the LPL, we can finally see which teams will be facing off for the Championship, and a spot at the Mid-Season Invitational. Here are the two teams that have fought hard to get where they are now.
Royal Never Give Up
RNG has had a long road through the playoffs, having to start all the way back in Round 1 where they managed to take down World Elite 3-0. Their next opponent was Snake Esports, a team that provided a little more trouble as the series finished 3-1. Finally, there was the semi-final match against Invictus Gaming. A highly anticipated showdown that saw RNG pushed to their limits before they were finally able to secure the victory, 3-2. Now RNG, a long time participant in the LPL, will face off one more time against another team that shares a storied past in the Chinese scene, EDward Gaming.
EDward Gaming
Their excellent performance in the regular season saw them gain an automatic entry into the semi-finals, bypassing a lot of games that their opponents were forced to endure. Their only real contest came with their victory over Rogue Warriors, a new organization that nevertheless managed to make it all the way to the third place match. EDG’s players will be much more rested than their opponents, but they will also have spent less time playing on the main stage, leaving a possible opening for RNG to exploit.
The winner of this contest will not only receive a very hefty prize pool, ¥ 1,500,000 to be exact, but they will also gain 90 Championship points for use later in the year as the World Championship approaches. Perhaps the most valuable prize on offer, however, will be a spot at the Mid-Season Invitational, where they will battle against the other winning teams from the other regions.
