San Francisco Take Down Seoul in the Overwatch League

The final match of the day saw the San Francisco Shock taking on the Seoul Dynasty, as both teams look for a great start to Stage Four. As always, there can be only one winner, so here’s a brief breakdown of the series.

The first map, Blizzard World, saw these two teams finally manage to get the ball rolling on this map and advance the payload. The Shock took the first attack, and were able to secure the first point and start advancing the payload across the map. Despite the defence from Seoul coming out in force, the Shock were able to push the payload through the second checkpoint and reach the end of the map, though they had no time remaining in the end. The attack from Seoul was nearly as successful, however when they reached the end of the map they were stopped by the San Francisco defence, and forced to watch the clock run out without reaching the end of the map.

The second map, Horizon Lunar Colony, saw the Shock get off to a great start. Rapidly securing the first point, San Francisco were able to keep the tempo high as they flowed onto the second point, capturing that with plenty of time to spare. The attack from Seoul was not as successful in comparison, as they failed to breach the defences of San Francisco at all on the first point, cutting their map short. San Francisco now has a two map lead, with one more map being enough to claim victory in the series.

The third map, Oasis, was a chance for revenge for the Seoul Dynasty. The first round was incredibly close, with the Shock reaching 99% before being forced off the point. Seoul would claim the victory on this particular battlefield, keeping their hopes alive for now. The second round again went to Seoul, as they managed to keep the Shock from gaining any percentage of the point, keeping the match time low and their series hopes alive.

The fourth map, Watchpoint: Gibraltar, was a must win for both teams. The Shock took their attack first, and were once again able to showcase their skill on payload maps, advancing the payload through all the checkpoints to finish the round with nearly two minutes to spare. The attack from Seoul was once again less than successful, as though they were able to push the payload through the first checkpoint, they were unable to reach the second, forced back by the unrelenting defence from San Francisco. With the defence holding, it was only a matter of time before San Francisco were able to claim victory, taking down Seoul 3-1 as they look to leap ahead in the standings.
