GTL: Overwatch's Newest Hero Changes the Game

The world of Overwatch is full of exciting times, as the popular first person shooter from Blizzard Entertainment is celebrating its second anniversary, the Overwatch League is closing in on the end of a highly successful inaugural season and the meta shaking up with the introduction of the newest support hero Brigitte. On this episode of Game Talk Live, Mandi Roman discusses these issues and more with an expert panel of guests including Overwatch League casters Erik "DoA" Lonnquist and Mitch "Uber" Leslie and Houston Outlaws coach Kyle "KyKy" Souder.

Overwatch is the latest success that Blizzard has seen in the esports world, and its Overwatch League has quickly become one of the top esports leagues in the world with its similar approach in structure as traditional sports league, such as the formation of city-based teams. The panel discusses what drew them to Overwatch and ultimately a career in the Overwatch League. Overwatch combining features of games they loved playing and watching, being fans of Blizzard titles and the opportunity to help build a ground breaking esports product from the beginning are all topics discussed and referenced.

Discussion also covered the impact that Overwatch's newest Support hero Brigitte has had on the game's meta for both casual, competitive and professional players, other heroes who have greatly affected the meta when first introduced, the positives and negatives of the long time period that the dive composition dominated the first person shooter and how much time do Overwatch League and team employees actually spend playing Overwatch.

"It’s kind of a weird thing when your hobby or your side past time become your job... We all came in with a passion, but it becomes hard to make it a leisure activity." - @overwatchleague #shoutcaster @UberShouts, on #shoutcasting for #OWL

The panel also covers how much playing Overwatch themselves actually affects their jobs in the league and what kinds of game modes should be included in the competitive playlist.
While becoming a full time game mode in official league matches, lockout elimination could prove to be an entertaining game mode for professionals to play at special events due to its forcing of teams to utilize a multitude of heroes. A possibility of utilizing a 3 control point game mode instead of the current 2 control point game mode in order to see if it would allow for a more competitive and entertaining experience was also discussed by the panel, while the prospect of having capture the flag make its way to the competitive world was not highly supported.

"It’s a lot of pressure and stage anxiety. I think in scrims, you can ask any team and they’ll say they perform way better than they are on stage." - @KyKy on @ShanghaiDragons' performance during @overwatchleague
