Overwatch League recaps for the first day of week 3, stage 4

As we approach the half way mark of stage 4, the games are getting more competitive as the teams close in on their potential final rankings for the inaugural season of the Overwatch League. Some of the teams have really stepped up to the plate, making a name for themselves in the lead up to the season playoffs, while other teams are still struggling to find their place on the ladder. Here’s a brief breakdown of the three series from day 1 of week 3.

New York Excelsior vs Philadelphia Fusion

The first match of the day saw New York claiming yet another dominant victory over their opponents. Though the Philadelphia Fusion did put up an excellent fight, New York managed to continue their recent string of victories, keeping their unbeaten streak alive. This series ended up being a clean 4-0 sweep for New York, claiming victory on Blizzard World, Hanamura, Oasis, and Dorado.

Seoul Dynasty vs Shanghai Dragons

At times this seemed to be a very close match, with Seoul looking a little lost early on in the series. Ultimately however, the Dynasty managed to prevail in straight sets, taking down Shanghai 4-0 to pick up their first victory of stage 4. Featuring extremely close games on King’s Row, Hanamura, Lijiang Tower, and Dorado, Shanghai looked much better than they had in the past, though how much of that shine was a reflection of their opponents recent struggles remains to be seen.

Los Angeles Valiant vs Los Angeles Gladiators

An extremely hyped series in what would be the main event of the day saw both teams from Los Angeles once again battling it out for bragging rights over their home turf. The match couldn’t have started any closer, with the teams pulling a draw on the first map, Blizzard World, before the Los Angeles Valiant hit their stride and claimed victory on Horizon Lunar Colony, Oasis, and Dorado to claim the series victory 3-0.

There’s not much time left for these teams to gain a better spot on the ladder, though for the teams at the top there’s still plenty of time to stand out from the crowd.
