European LCS Match Recaps Day 2, Week 1
By Zac Cameron ·
We've got all the action from the second day of week 1 in the European League of Legends Championship Series.

We’re back to wrap up the first week of the European League of Legends Championship Series, with the teams that have embraced the new Meta changes, and the teams that are still relying on the old faithful methods. Here’s a brief recap of the games from the second day of the first week in the EU LCS.
H2K vs ROCCAT
We’re well and truly into the new Meta now, with ROCCAT opting to run Ziggs and Pyke in the bot lane, over a more traditional pick. It seems to have paid off well for them, with their squad able to dominate the map overall, losing just two kills and a single turret over the entirety of their clash. With this new prevalence of non-standard bot lane picks making a surge, it will be interesting to see how well the teams adapt to a lane that has essentially not changed in years.
Misfits vs Unicorns of Love
Despite what we just witnessed in the previous game, it seems that Misfits are more than capable of using more standard AD Carry Champions as a path to victory. The focus was once again heavily on the bot lane, however Hans Sama’s Varus proved to be more than up for the task, finishing the game 9/0/12 in a very short 23 minute game. While AD Carries may not be the strongest they’ve ever been, it seems individual skill and team cohesion still play a large part in victory.
Vitality vs Giants
And we’re back to the new style of bot lanes, with Vitality proving that a Lux / Pyke combo can be extremely deadly when given the opportunity to flourish. This was a closer game than the previous two, with Giants proving willing to go toe-to-toe with Vitality, however a willingness to fight doesn’t always mean you’ll with the fight, so we’ll have to see if they can improve in other areas before trying again.
Fnatic vs FC Schalke 04
Probably the closest match we’ve seen so far today also ended up being the game with the least kills, as Fnatic managed to claw their way back from an incredible deficit to beat Schalke. Opting to try their strategy from yesterday, Fnatic chose to pick Champions to funnel their resources onto mid laner Caps, which seemed to ultimately pay off, despite falling very far behind early in the game. Ig this is the strategy they’ll be opting for in the coming weeks, Fnatic will need to improve quite a lot if they want to take down the stronger teams.
G2 Esports vs Splyce
The final match of the day and we’re back to the so called “Fiesta” bot lanes, with both teams opting to run non-traditional AD Carries as they look for an advantage. Despite strong performances from both teams, it looks like G2 have a better read on exactly what they need to do to claim victory in these uncertain times, taking down Splyce after a long and protracted game.
