Have Pokemon Go Dataminers Revealed the Next Community Day Pokemon?

Trainers worldwide were nonplused with the news that Chikorita, the much-maligned Generation II Grass-type starter, would be September's Community Day featured Pokemon. Even with an exclusive move in Frenzy Plant, Chikorita does not seem to generate as much interest from Trainers as other Pokemon have in the past. Well, if data found by r/TheSilphRoad is any indication, Trainers may be very pleasantly surprised at the next Community Day featured Pokemon:

That's right, Generation III's pseudo-legendary pre-evolution, Beldum, might just be the Community Day Pokemon for October. Last month, Meteor Mash was discovered in Pokemon Go's code. Meteor Mash is a powerful Steel-type move that serves as somewhat of a trademark move for Metagross, Beldum's final evolution. Trainers speculated at that point just when we'd be treated to a Beldum Community Day. Now, it seems it's coming sooner rather than later.

Meteor Mash Metagross in the Meta?

Try saying that three times fast! Despite the special move, MM Metagross will be a situational attacker at best, mostly due to Steel's niche type advantages. Steel as an offensive type is only strong against Fairy, Ice, and Rock-types and will lose in the DPS race to Pokemon like Machamp and Moltres. It will, however, be the best Fairy-type attacker, which doesn't really matter until Gen VII releases. Plus, Generation IV will bring two Legendary Steel-type Pokemon, Dialga and Heatran, who will undoubtedly compete with Metagross for the top Steel-type attacker spot. It may end up that, after all this wanting and wishing, we're only using our MM Metagrosses for a short time before they are replaced.

We'll just have to wait and see if this data is legit or if it's a red herring for a completely different event. Until then, we have legendary birds to defeat before Mewtwo shows up. Check out our guide to defeating the Fire-type legendary bird, Moltres.
