We spoke earlier of a mysterious new Pokemon that started spawning after the Chikorita Community Day. Today, the official Pokemon Twitter posted the above video, detailing a conversation between Professor Willow and Professor Oak. Willow mentions that the Ditto he's sending has been transofmring into a strange Pokemon. At first, Oak does not recognize the new creature, but then Oak realizes its identiy - Meltan. Oak mentions that Meltan is an ancient Pokemon first seen in old texts the Professor had on hand. Afterwards, the official Pokemon Twitter posted two more tweets:
One reveals Meltan's species name, type, and measureables.

The other reveals Meltan standing next to the player character in Pokemon Let's Go! with a link to the official game page.

Poking around the Let's Go site reveals some more information about our new friend. Saying, "Most of Meltan’s body is made from liquid metal, and its shape is very fluid. It can use its liquid arms and legs to corrode metal and absorb it into its own body.

Meltan generates electricity using the metal it absorbs from outside sources. It uses this electricity as an energy source and also as an attack that can be fired from its eye.

Clearly a curious Pokémon, Meltan is very expressive and shows an interest in all kinds of things."

The page then confirms the mysterious spawns from last weekend were indeed planned, as the site says:

"Many reports have come in about sightings of Ditto in Pokémon GO that have transformed into Meltan. The number of sightings has significantly decreased over the past few days, but it appears these "Meltan" are still appearing in various areas.

Research is being conducted on these appearances of Meltan, but we have learned that Pokémon GO is somehow key to meeting this curious new Pokémon in Pokémon: Let’s Go, Pikachu! and Pokémon: Let’s Go, Eevee! We’ll be sure to provide updates as we discover more!

The official Pokemon Twitter confirmed Meltan's ability to harness electricity with this post:

But it doesn’t stop there! #Meltan uses the metal in its body to generate electricity. ⚡️

It uses this electricity in two ways—as a source of energy and as an attack that can be fired from its eye! https://t.co/Y3673k5phs pic.twitter.com/m9G1AY6ziF

Could we potentially see a Steel/Electric type evolution in Meltan's future?

There will undoubtedly be more information posted about Meltan over the next few days, so stay tuned!
